Did some more speed testing - At home I'm lucky to break 3mbps. This appears to be true inside most masonry buildings. Traveling around town I've seen 60-90mbps! Definitely appears to be hyper local, but I haven't encountered no service. Seems to be pretty decent.

Just signed up today and it was a pain dealing with the terrible CSR I was working with. Took over an hour to setup the account and port number in. Service is noticibally worse than T-Mobile. High ping times and poor upload speed so far. Remembering why I left Virgin 6 years ago. I will continue to see how it is around the Denver area but feels like a big downgrade. Might get the kid a compatible device and make him suffer with this or just cancel it.

It could be you're in a bad area for Sprint or it could be that the phone you're trying to use lacks one or more of the bands needed to fully run properly on Sprint. Most notably band 41 which they rely heavily on. We're using an Verizon iPhone 6 on one of our lines (which lacks band 41) and we definitely see a difference compared to our other lines. Luckily, we're in a strong Sprint area and the person using that phone doesn't require "perfect" coverage as it's a backup line for them.

My Nexus 6 is not eligible, maybe because it's blue and not black 😂 Sprint has always been a disappointment.

I get band 41 and it's it or miss in my house regarding speed. Ping has been a complete disappointment, even phone quality of calls is poor. For 4 bucks a month it's worth having crappy service.

One last shot. Have you tried updating your carrier settings? Like a PRL update? That may help. If not, you just might be in a bad area for Sprint.

Thanks for the suggestions, I did try that and I'm just not getting a strong signal. I'm on the essential phone which also does not pick up the best signal so that's probably partially to blame.

If it was ever on Project Fi or Ting, call whichever of them and see if they can help.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/c...ty_issues/

although it says 5x.

Often it is a matter of flipping the mvno flag although that would have likely have given a different error.

You're right. I'm currently on Project Fi. Not sure whether this service, despite being free, is worth the hassle. I was a Sprint customer for years and dread the idea of interacting with their customer service. Thank you though!
