Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I tried Ting and got this:

Great news!
Your phone is compatible with Ting!

.....
That is probably a failure because it should say compatible with both Ting GSM and Ting CDMA.

Try the Tello checker which is not so ambiguous.

I tried the Sprint IMEI again and got the same error:

We can't activate this phone online.

Sorry, please bring your phone to a Sprint Store so we can help.

So my phone is 'PLBL' issue? What causes that? Is it something the prior owner did to the phone?
Ting can use 2 networks. It's been a while since I used checker but was the phone eligible for both networks(it should be). If just eligible GSM(they use tmo) and not CDMA(sprint), then is something other than PLBL.
Also tello checker should pass.
PLBL flag gets set if phone was on a sprint mvno, so the prior owner may have used it with sprint mvno.

It would not fail Ting CDMA and Tello because of MVNO flags.

If it fails, it is something else (could be stolen, not paid off etc.)

I will guess it may be a Sprint model that was not paid off. Or is simply not unlocked. Or an international model etc.

Check the details in Settings to see if it is the Sprint model.

You can tell from the suffixes on the ROM etc.

If it fails the Tello checker it is not the PLBL / MVNO issue.

Anyway the MVNO PLBL issue gives a different error: "You owe Sprint...." normally.

Edited to clarify needs to pass both ting networks and tello.

Should I jump ... Decisions to make ... It is said that people aren't jumping and have to think about it even when they are calling us to join for free. That's the real valuation of their service IMHO. In past I've had nothing but bad experience with them. Hopefully they have improved now.

I unfortunately learned the value of free
with Sprint last week when I missed the multiple calls from my wife who went into labor 3 weeks early while I was in a dead zone. She got to drive herself to the hospital and I had a beautiful boy the next day along with new T-Mobile service. Lesson learned.

u got called to join for free?

that's a first .

regardless, u are not looking at the big picture.
here is big picture and rationale for this plan:

it has been reported that cell companies do not make money on new customers during 1st year. this is due to costs associated with acquiring new customers, the biggest of which is adverting costs

S is doing something unique here where they give service for free for 1 year,

and have nOT advertised this plan much (or at all).
[except for u who got a cal from Sprint]

with the cost they save they are passing on to u.
in the hopes u give it a try and if it works for u , u will continue as customer

do not look at this deal with such simplistic point of view that most people are doing (including ur self)

"oh their service is not worth more than free"

that couldn't be further from the truth

jump. dont jump. not really care do i.

but make educated/sound decision.

there isnt any better time to try sprint than now.
sure some people will have issues and the signal will not be good for them.
those people should cancel and look elsewhere

edit: im glad all is well and there is a happy ending to your Sprint story

but keep in mind, that is true for every company.

its all bout location location location

equally true is that many new customers are pleasantly surprised at how much the service has improved

u wont know till u try

As my year is up I need to switch my 5 lines of service. I'm thinking of going to Tmobile. I think I need 5 SIM cards, correct? So are the following two the same SIM cards for Tmobile?

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F273462495769

https://www.t-mobile.com/internet-device/t-mobile-3-in-1-mobile-internet-sim-kit?color=&memory=&cmpid=ADV_PL_92700015720035115&mx_ch=ADV_PL&_vsrefdom=213-670-4996&mchxkw=c:690881224,k:,m:,p:1o1,d:m,ai:35212685265,ad:155253828901,s:g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3vi99YPB3QIVy5yzCh3y8wEeEAQYASABEgKM-PD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Tmobile's cost is $25 per SIM card and eBay is $4. Are they the same? Will this cause any problems when I move onto the TMobile One plan for my 5 lines?

I'll just add that many unhappy customers were also using older phones. Some were not even aware their phones weren't capable of band 41. The fastest of the 3 LTE bands. The newer phones are the ones that give the best S experience. LG G6 and newer, Samsung S8 and newer. Note8 and newer. Moto Z2 force and newer. Pixel2 and newer. These are just a few examples. But i agree with Desi with it's all about location. If you have any phone Q's there are experts here in this thread to answer any Q's you may have.

I need to port my existing Xfinity Mobile and I need to get a send line for my kid.

What is the best way to get 2nd line? Should I buy a number on https://www.numberbarn.com and use that to port? Does Sprint ask any info (Carrier?) apart from account number and pin?

Is Google Voice route better? Same question on GV route, what carrier info should I provide?

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Babu,

I'm well aware of economics and logistics of these companies. I work for the product company that designs and architects platforms of telecommunication industry from gound up. I think you missed the figurative speech and sarcasm in my message, but that's ok. To break it down and make it easy for you to understand, "I've had a bad experience with Sprint in past and I just hope their service has become better so that new customers who are making use of this offer benefit from it." That's it. Hope it helps.

I read on Reddit, Sprint would SIM lock the unlocked Essential Phones after people activated the free plan. Is it true?
Not if bought from other places as unlocked phone. I'm using essential phone unlocked bought from amazon. I've been using att until switched to sprint recently. It's a little trouble to swap it into sprint network though, requiring a factory reset. But it's still unlocked. I tried put att SIM card into it today and it worked as well.
