Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Please stop replying if you don't know what you're talking about.
if you wanted to discuss a particular post you should have started that way.

first of all, $25 for 4 months isn't free. It's $100.

Secondly, that's one person, not "several".

Thirdly,if you follow that discussion there's nothing there about "extending" the free byod plan. In fact if they have to buy a phone it's obviously not byod.

Most likely the rep was talking about a phone deal where she would get service credit making the service "free" for a period of time, but not really because she had to buy or lease the phone.

So it has nothing to do with "extending" the byod free plan.

And who the hell do you think you are telling people to stop posting ?

Since it is a formal retention offer noted internally on your account, you may be able to get a written copy by requesting one via chat or talking to Retentions. I suspect that will be the case. They have thousands of these formally-approved retention offers so they probably have a procedure to provide a written copy on request.

I am sure that it exists and has been approved, but I also would request a written copy to avoid any miscommunication.

I am positive they would not mind, but if you do not want to ask, you could just go over it in detail in chat and that way you would at least have the written chat transcript of that.

Just got off of chat to confirm the second year free deal I got, here is the important part:

You: my free year ends at the end of the month. I was told that if I pay $25 per month for the next 4 months of service and then upgraded my phone I would be eligible for another year of free service.
You: is that true/accurate?
Jonel D.: Absolutely! Yes
Jonel D.: Exactly
Jonel D.: And one more thing Richard
Jonel D.: I will give you a reference number that includes that agreement
Jonel D.: It will be I147383XXXX
Jonel D.: And you'll get the transcript of this chat conversation. Cool
You: ok that will work I guess, thanks Jonel

I normally just lurk on these forums, but I feel the need to at least put my 2 cents worth in. I was with Sprint for nearly 4 years. The first year, LTE didn't exist. Year 2 was ok. Year 3 is where it gets horrible. I end up buying a new phone for my wife. It's the LG V20. The Sprint team member said there was a promotion for 2 free tablets and a free wifi hotspot with the V20. This was at the same time Samsung was giving a TV as part of their promotion. I specifically asked about my bill twice and got confirmation that my out of pocket would be X. She confirmed this again when I asked a different way (no added charges from the tablets or hotspot). Again she said yes. So, shame on me for not getting the microscope out and looking at the terms. But I got charged full price for everything. Add insult to injury? There are connection fees as well. Can it get worse? Yup, I saw "administrative fees" as a new line item. I brought this up to their customer service teams multiple times (about misrepresentation), I was told "Sorry, there isn't anything we can do". Up until I was a few months away from paying them off, they decided to give me a $10 credit. As of last week, I'm now within AT&T. At least the coverage is much better. They were a little more expensive plan-wise, but at least I wasn't lied to. This deal looks great on paper and I know my dealing with Sprint may not be the norm, but it can happen.

Yes you can pickup in store. When you picking it up. Tell them you're on the free plan and you'll activate the phone at home. Do not let store activate for you.
I did just this today. My 120 days were up about 5 days ago. Ordered the new XS Max online, picked it up in the store an hour later, brought it home and activated online. Plan still shows Unlimited BYOD for $5/mo through 7/31/19. Smilie

So initiate 2nd line at Sprint, then terminate at Sprint will not work? The phone number doesn't matter.
You must always port in a new number through TeleSales to add it, or even to add it back a second time after it was off. There is some very nice clear language describing this in the wiki. They do not want any lines added except off "competitors".

You have to take a savvier approach based on knowing the rules and who to call.

Just saying "called Sprint" tells the tale that you are not familiar enough with them yet.

You call TeleSales only after 120 days to take take advantage of Sprint special phone sales promotions which they call "upgrades".

To replace your phone all on your own, that can be done at any time by buying one completely independent of Sprint and IMEI swapping it on via your dashboard or via tech support chat. If you need Sprint sales help and advice to do this, forget it as they will not provide it.

They tend to assume you are in the category that is looking for help and advice from them getting a new phone and if you are, then they are correct that you would lose your free plan if you order from Telesales or a store etc.

Quote from semifast :
no there are not several people that say they extended their free plan by buying a phone.

there is no such offer.

there are people who cancelled their free offer and signed up for a new free offer, either by using a different SS or waiting 45 days.

Buying a phone had nothing to do with that process. And that is not extending a plan, it's replacing it.
There are some special Retention offers at or after the end of your free year. These are not published but some people are discussing them. To check on them, any current subscriber near the end of their free year can just call Retentions (ask for "Cancellations") and they will tell you what special Retentions Offers they are prepared to offer you (it depends on how many lines you have etc.) . Other departments including chat cannot access these offers. There are a number of different Retentions offers including some with a couple of hundred dollars credits and others with a flat $25 a month cost and others with a free 8 months if you buy a new phone etc.

Of course, as you note, you can just ignore these or not ask about them and just sign up again instead for another free year with either another SSN or after 45 days. This latter course (just sign up again for another free year instead) is probably the better course in my opinion for most people as long as the plan remains open to new signups.
