Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I've tried reading as much of the wiki and I'm probably answering my own question but, I just paid for a month of service from ST before seeing this. My phone is compatible and such. I can't get a refund from ST for the service but I don't want to lose out on this deal. I saw something about savings till 11/30/19.. So would I be safe to get everything together and just wait till the end of the month to do the swap? Thanks in advanced.
if it were me, i wouldn't risk a whole year for 1 month.
id get it ASAP.

i like to follow the advice below.

Anyone know the quickest way to get ahold of retention? (Someone who can actually offer me a decent deal)

I want to try talking to them about cancelling service to see what kind of offers they can give me before I change providers. My plan is up in about a month.
i wouldn't take a ret offer.
not while the free year is still available.

khan on the right path below.

Still have 6 months to go to finish my 12 but am thinking to be safe, need to set up another account for a fresh start. Just have a feeling this promo is near its end. T-mobile merger etc. Better to have a foot in the door before the opportunity closes. Will only cost less than $5 a month anyway.

I'm not changing my number. And I want a phone deal and my work pays my service fee. I want SWAC really but don't think I can with this line and I don't want "another line" as I don't want a new phone number.

Nah, they mean the old list is expired, not the phones in it. The phones in it are still eligible.
Post #2 is more up to date, plus all recent iPhone XS and XR and other obvious major phones.

Anybody use PDANET or any of the other apps long term on this free plan? Did you ever get warned or canceled for extensive usage?

Yeah I use it all the time without problem or warning.
If you go over 50 GB you are subject to throttling if network overloaded (rarely if ever occurs) , regardless of whether the use is for whatever.
Mind you I have an old plan that has 10 GB hotspot but I save their hotspot for when/if needed.

If you want to use 100's of GB maybe that might attract attention but probably not.

Cool. Just didn't want to get slapped with fines or get canceled out of the blue.
The funny thing is that when I do PDANET USB tether it works a heck of a lot better than sprint's native tethering option, which seems throttled to the gills and barely worth using - it just drops all the freaking time.

I do not have a speed problem with native hotspot or tether, but agree it can drop. I remember I used to have that issue in another place and with another phone. I agree PDANet is more robust and may be better in some cases including weak signal!

You would not need a new number in any scenario. I do not think you have worked through all possibilities. You can move numbers around and swap them etc. however you want - they never are a factor. Nothing goes by the number. Some things do go by SSN.

By the way SWAC is now 50 GB hotspot in the base plan (100 GB in the higher level plan).

SWAC is better than anything you would get from Retentions. Also if you call Retentions yourself you get lousy offers. You have to wait for them to call you to get anything worthwhile. Or get good at "social engineering" in an ongoing series of calls. If you want to reach them ,just ask for "Cancellations" on the phone.

SWAC plans get upgraded over time, even for existing users, whereas Retention plans will be frozen and become inferior and obsolete eventually.

For the benefit of others reading this, SWAC is described at
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/swac
https://www.sprint.com/content/da...%20mgh.pdf
BUT you need an employee referral (try on reddit or search Slickdeals as there was one thread earlier).

Hi,
I think I want to follow your method... One question about your method tho... When you called T-mobile prepaid to activate your number, wouldn't they also ask you to put money into your new T-mobile account? I would have assumed that they would at minimum, ask you to put $10 into your new T-mobile line.

Pls describe, this part of your process with a little more detail, so that I know what to say...
Thanks!

After a year of contemplating if I need this, I've finally decided to jump in.
Thanks to all those that's contributed to this thread so throughly and the wiki contributions!

Needed a TMo number so bought this digital sim here for $2.49
https://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Mobile...3324067412 [ebay.com]

Setup a TMo number in about 10 min. Called 877-234-4299 and had them connect me to prepaid, which bypassed the long wait times.
Then called Sprint at 866-782-8777 about 10 min after. Took about 30 min to complete the full setup.
Now just waiting for my phone and account to be activated. No service bars yet after about 15 minutes. Just need to cancel the Insurance plan once I can sign up my account online.

TMo only asked what plan I might be interested in. I just said I want the prepaid pay as you go, and I will fund it later. He gave me my phone number and asked me to choose a 6 digit pin. That was it.

I paid and got BYOD SIM card for my Samsung phone. Now I am trying to activate it for iPhone 6s, and the rep said, I have to get a different BYOD SIM now.

I told him, I can activate the current SIM on Samsung and later switch the activated sim to iPhone. But he says, that I can't change the phone once activated for one year free term.

Can someone confirm, if both these are true?

First, you need to read the Wiki and learn. Also avoid asking sales reps technical questions.

Different phone capabilities require different sims period. You look up the sim required for your phones and get them.

You can NEVER use a wrong sim for the phone you are using.

You can NOT swap a sim to a different phone (worse yet one that needs a different sim) to move service.

HOWEVER you can swap phones easily. Chat tech support to do a device swap at any time after you are on. Each phone has to have the appropriate sim in it at all times.

You swap out phone1 with its sim1, and swap in phone2 with its own sim2. This takes 2 minutes.

For now, go get the iPhone 6s sim from an Apple store or elsewhere. Note different iPhone models require different sims.

Fyi my free year was up so I had switched 3 lines out to MetroPCS and Ting (2 months ago). Was surprised to get a call on my now-with-Metro line from Sprint Retention a day after porting! Rep offered me $250 in statement credits per line =$750 to come back on regular Sprint plan. That seemed attractive enough so gave the go ahead. Unfortunately, the rep and I subsequently found out that since Ting is a Sprint mvno, 2 of my 3 lines I had ported out to Ting were not eligible for the credit. Only the one with Metro would get it. Looking back, should have read this thread's wiki more carefully before porting out. Main thing here I was offered $250 credits per line.
