I signed up to sprint BYOD on August, . How the Walmart deal will work on my free plan?
I'm thinking on Pay off the phone and have the $400 gift card from Walmart.
But the "activation"? Will it work? Without ending my BYOD plan? Thank you.
For A) existing customers whose 1 year BYOD plan is expiring and want to renew another year of free BYOD OR B) customers on Sprint MVNO's i.e. Tello/Ting/Virgin/Boost, the fastest easiest is to port out to T-mobile using cheap ($3) digital T-Mobile SIM card from eBay and port back in to Sprint for another year of free 1YR BYOD. You can also trade with another fellow SDers as some (not all) of the electronic/digital sims are reusable.
If you are existing Sprint postpaid customer in the last 45 days, you will need a new SSN (friend/ family). If you are porting from a Sprint MVNO you don't need a new SSN as long as you weren't a Sprint postpaid customer in the last 45 days.
1) First, have your Sprint/ Sprint MVNO account number and PIN ready. I called Sprint to confirm my account number and pin for all 5 lines. Ensure that you have a Sprint eligible phone and compatible Sprint SIM card (Sprint SIM can be reused). If you are existing Sprint customer, you do not need to remove the sprint sim from the sprint phone during all of the below steps.
2) Order the cheap digital T-Mobile SIM Card from eBay This or similar [ebay.com]. You will purchase 1 unique digital T-mobile SIM for each line you want to port as some digital SIM can be used only/ consumed only once. If you want to do this for multiple lines like me, prepare a list for each phone line (Original sprint number, original sprint account number, original sprint pin, sprint device MEID or IMEI, Sprint sim ICCID, one of the unique T-Mobile sim number, to be added T-Mobile account number, T-Mobile pin, New Sprint Account Number, New Sprint pin) If you have the list ready, you are already halfway there.
3) Once you receive the digital SIM card number, call Tmobile customer care 1-877-778-2107 to port your sprint number to Tmobile. Ask for PAY AS YOU GO, Talk & text starting at just $3/month plan (If they insist on higher plan or having more balance in the plan, just hang up and call again to get a different rep). Just give them your Sprint/ Sprint MVNO acct number, PIN , phone number and T mobile SIM card number. If rep asks for an activation code tell them it is not necessary- only the SIM card number is needed.
4) Your number will be ported to T mobile in less than 5 minutes per line. While still on call with TMobile rep, ensure to update your list with the TMobile account number and pin. Note that for each line in Tmobile prepaid, it will be a separate account number and pin. Please insist on adding your different email addresses for each line (It helped with my account numbers discrepancies) as each line must have a different email address.
5) Wait for ~ 20 minutes to verify the completion of the T-mobile port and the cancellation of your Sprint account. Port is complete when your existing Sprint/ Sprint MVNO phone stops working (no direct calls/ no text/ no data internet) for some whatsapp wifi calling or facetiming or imessage may still work on sprint phone but text to non iphone users should stop working and turn off wifi and data should be gone. If your Sprint phone keeps working that means port didn't work and call T-Mobile back and have them recheck the old sprint account and pin and associated phone number.
6) Now call back sprint telesales number 1866-782-8777 to sign up for the 1 year BYOD free plan and port back your number from Tmobile with a new SSN i(New or family SSN is needed only if you were an existing Sprint postpaid customer in the last 45 days).
7) After about 45 mins on the phone call, you are good to go for another one year. Verbally confirm that the representative waives the $30 activation fee per line as part of the promotion. If Sprint rep heavily insist on adding the device protection plan or Sprint Complete, you can remove it later if you want it, by going in your new online account, My sprint > Change Services to remove the coverage if not needed (do that for each line). Ask the rep to notate your account that you signed up for the BYOD 1 year $0 promotion for each lines in case the rep misapplied the promotion. In addition, ask the rep for your new Sprint account number and pin and notate this down for future reference.
8) Ensure to create your new Sprint account set up online with auto-pay to get the $5 credit for each line. Also set up your voice mail for each line.
9) Most Important: I had 5 lines and I purposely withheld 1 line to be done later, as the sprint port in department screwed up and didn't activate my phones correctly. for few overnight hours, the non-ported original sprint phone was the only working phone in the family and I used the phone heavily to contact sprint and T-mobile to resolve the issue. Lesson: don't do this late evening as sprint customer care group closes at 10 pm

1. Many deadspots
2. 4G LTE is much slower
3. Can't use internet, while you're on the phone
4. Texts are often broke up into a bunch of short scrambled up texts
Overall, while it's awesome to have 5 lines for $25, I'm worn out of the lack of reliability and will be switching back to the T-Mobile network.

Thx for the reply

What was the $21 fee for? Look in the detailed itemization. There are a couple of large cites that charge large per line phone taxes. That is one partial possibility among others. But look and see. Also check the Wiki for typical fees for your zip code. There is a survey there by zip code.
Also check on DashBoard/Manage Plan/See Details or in the App that you are on the Free plan.
Is this for one line?
do I have to get it unlocked first?
How much is the city and state telephone tax per line?
Please break it down in detail.
Total taxes and fees nationwide average is about $4 per line (see wiki for survey)

It happened to me when first bill is generated, auto pay was not setup and so it didn't consider that discount. Like another person replied you, get a detailed breakup of charges for more clarity.

Walmart associate told, I need to keep the phone line active at least one billing cycle before paying it off. Also activation fee of about $30 will be charged during this time.
So after a month you should be able to use it on Sprint BYOD.
