Yes that is new!

But the terms of that plan do not include "Req. credit approval" as do the terms of this one.

It may take Sprint a while (hopefully a long while) to realize that they are not checking that requirement of the Free Plan if you set up an empty account at a store, then call in to add the Free plan.

If they really intended the "no credit check" option to apply to other plans, then TeleSales would offer no credit check too.

But one might as well take advantage of it anyway via this route while one can! There account records are so messed up that they are full of anomalies so I do not think they are going to go through and act on them once the account is up and running. It *might* also be possible to set up two accounts this way, one with your SSN and one without an SSN. Or both without SSN.
For all practical effects and purposes, that certainly eliminates the "new customer" 45 day waiting period!!!

I was thinking along those lines too.

Let's say I succeed in setting up my plan next time without a credit-check.

Then, when I eventually cancel it a year later and want to sign up again, it is not going to show up as readily without the SSN when they check if I was a recent customer.

However, the poster said that setting up this way "prevents you from all future new customer offers." I do not know if that is enforced somehow - it would be hard to enforce.

He said that:

"Of course sprint would love to get your social for "needed purposes" on a BYOD account... but it prevents you from all future new customer offers (I assume via social)"

And that makes perfect sense since when Sprint has your SS # you are no longer a "new" customer and you are not eligible for the "future new customer offers".

But now, with the 999-99-9999 thing, Sprint will no longer have your actual SS # so you can be a "new" customer.

Oh I believe you are right!

I was misinterpreting what he meant.

Well this sounds better and better.......if one can pull it off....I would caution people that this may be a YMMV situation because officially this offer says a Credit Check is required.. some reps and/or some stores may catch it...

Also an account without credit approval will likely have usage limits of various kinds.

IF this works, people should keep in mind that an account opened with Sprint stays open to accept lines for a limited time, I think it's 30 days, after which it's closed.
I don't think it's 14 days but it may be.

So, no one should do this now hoping that, say on April 20, they can use this account to add tel. lines.
It'll be long closed by then.

Just ported from T Mobile to Sprint yesterday. Everything went smooth and completed within an hour. I did enquire about the no credit check option, the rep said this plan wouldn't qualify for skipping the credit check. And for the plans that bypass credit check, the activation charge cannot be waived off.

Good to have confirmation that the TeleSales reps are always going to say that if you ask THEM to set up the account. After all, it is part of their normal procedure for this plan. So people who want to try this should not try to do it that way.

The poster bypassed the need for that by first creating an empty account at a store. Then when he called the rep, the account was already set up, so the rep only needed to add the plan to the existing account, without doing any credit check. From a procedural point of view, any credit check would have already have been done at the store.

I finally received the Magic Box Gold after several attempts. Data speeds are reliably twice as fast as what the Gen 2 device delivered. Refer your representative to https://www.sprint.com/en/support...:learnmore

While porting out the sprint number to h2o wireless for death, do you need to provide IMEI of the phone? Or just the SIM number is enough? Thanks.

It asks but you can put any IMEI.

When killing my Magic Box off my account by porting out its "number", I put in the IMEI of my phone. It does not care or use it for anything.

sprint changed, now you can upgrade online after 4 months.

I got this email
You get Unlimited Data, Talk and Text service free until 3/31/20 AND we've waived your activation fee! All this while you keep your same phone, phone number, special photos and fav apps and music.

If you choose to upgrade, this great choice allows you to upgrade your device at sprint.com after 4 months. But remember, online is the only way to upgrade and continue your remaining months on this promotional plan

Thanks. I need to port out several lines and I wanted to make sure I can use the same phone IMEI to port out several lines sequentially.

In what way is this a change?

The web site says: "Upgrades for the lines activated on the Free Unlimited plan will be allowed after 4 months of service. At that time, return to sprint.com and log in to your account to purchase/lease your new phone. When it arrives, visit www.sprint.com/activate to activate the new phone. Any upgrades prior to the 4 months or in a retail location will require a plan change to the Unlimited data, talk and text plan which starts at $60 per month after an AutoPay discount. Unfortunately, you'll lose the remaining free months in your year of free service if you upgrade early or purchase/lease your new phone in a retail location."

As far as I remember, it has always allowed online upgrade.

You can also call in to the number ending in 8777 to do it and I am sure that will still be the case.
