Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Sharing my experience...

Porting out and in again for year 2.5 and SSN return from exiting May 2018.

Port out to T-Mo online for $3 each for 2 lines. Got free sims from Apple store. I choose to skip IMEI. T-Mo wouldn't give me online option to port in for multiple lines, so I went through process separate for each line. Pin and account number were listed on each confirmation receipt from T-Mo. received email "welcome" within 5-10 minutes and Sprint online account reflected the numbers were not in my dashboard any longer.

Waited about 20 minutes just for no reason. I did not ever remove the Sprint sims from the phones. Sprint checker showed "eligible" almost immediately for both numbers and IMEI numbers.

Called the 8777 number to start the process. gave IMEI, phone #, name,... blah blah to person. They asked me if I was ever on Sprint in the past. I said "yes, maybe a year ago". They conference called another person from a different dept "person with clear English talk" who asked for name, birthdate, SSN, address. And then said "I have removed the SSN from the previous account, do you need me for any other assistance". The employee replied "no, thank you for the help". I had ported out both numbers away last time around to T-Mo, so not sure why the SSN was still active to a dead account. He then proceeded with me to start the port info, occasionally putting me on mute (thought maybe he hung up on me a few times). My T-Mo account # was not the telephone number and I knew that already. All seemed to go fine. He did mention more than one time about the insurance required to go forward. No problem. At the end he asked several times about the survey and my rating him. He then said he was transferring me to the insurance dept to confirm whatever.

About 1 minute on hold, the phone disconnected without me talking to anyone.

I waited about 10 minutes and restarted the phones....never did I turn them off at any time with the sprint sims inserted all through this entire process.

Both phones would not make or receive calls, but I was able to hear what sounded like the voicemail answering. I did the 'network reset' and provision reset and service reset ##... numbers on both phones and everything came online.

I went to setup my Sprint online account and opened a chat to cancel the insurance, but the person said the insurance was not on my account. I opened the details of my plan account and did not see any other charges there either.

All in, maybe 1 hour for another year of $5.70 monthly service for 2 lines total.

Anyone have success porting from MetroPCS? I know what the post/wiki says, but I've also seen some people say they had success with T-Mobile MVNOs.

Sure, you can port your number in. As for the phone, it depends on what you want to use. See wiki for the link to the latest eligible phones' list.
Because of the phone, not the carrier, as noted by Sam. The carrier has nothing to do with it.
The current list at
https://community.sprint.com/t5/P...-p/1020211

shows that the following Moto models are eligible:

Motorola
Moto E4 (XT1768)
Moto E4 Plus (XT1775)
Moto G4
Moto G4 Play
Moto G4 Plus
Moto G5 Plus
Moto G5S Plus
Moto G6
Moto G6 Play
Moto X Pure Edition
Moto X4(XT1900)
Moto Z2 Play (XT1710)
Moto Z3 Play (XT19294)

I do see XT1775 on there. For that one, did you try calling the number ending in 8777 and asking them to double check the IMEI?

You can port from anywhere as long as the phone is eligible and unlocked.

Most Metro PCS phones are locked for 180 days (corrected)..

Plus they are largely GSM-only (no Sprint support) as well.

So those models are both incapable of running on Sprint and may or may not still be locked to MetroPCS which means no go..

But phones that are more universal should be fine once unlocked after 6 months. (such as iPhone SE as per MozVolta).

They unlock after 6 months of use. An exception would be the iPhone SE, no? That one is compatible with Sprint, from what I understand.

Sure iPhone SE is eligible (although lacking Sprint's high speed band) once unlocked after the 6 months required to unlock that you mentioned.

I updated my post to mention that.

No. I ran it about 1/2 hour ago and got the report I posted. I saw that message on the report so I turned off Find My iPhone and did a factory reset. Still same problems. I'm willing to pull another report for $1 if it is useful.
Sorry, wife texted me from the bedroom. I dropped everything, including my pants, zoomed into the bedroom to make love Big Grin

The message "The SIM card has locked. Please power cycle the device and if the problem persists contact Customer Service" does not seem to be from iTunes, it's a generic message from any carrier that displays on iPhones and other phones. Was iTunes connected to the internet when you did the factory restore? If the iPhone is unlocked, iTunes should tell you that it's unlocked after the factory restore via iTunes. IIRC, it would display, "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked" or something similar.

There are two activations for iPhone. One is Apple's activation and another is carrier's activation. Apple's activation is the activation with the Apple's servers that checks for activation policy, unlocked status, etc. The iPhone connects to the Apple's servers and updates the activation policy, unlocked status, etc. stored on the iPhone. Your GSX report shows that the IMEI is already unlocked on the Apple's servers. However, the iPhone itself is not necessary unlocked until it's connected to the Apple's servers for the update.

Carrier's activation, on the other hand, as you might have guessed it, is the activation with the carrier's servers to validate active service, IMEI, SIM ICCID, provision profile, update PRL, etc. Carrier's activation for the iPhone XS on Sprint can be tricky because the physical SIM ICCID has to be paired successfully with the correct IMEI from the iPhone XS on the Sprint's servers for the activation to go through. iPhone XS has two IMEIs as edog11 pointed out. The second IMEI (i.e., IMEI2) is for eSIM, and eSIM does not work with Sprint yet.

Having said the above, many other things can go wrong such as someone stole/misused your IMEIs, your SIM ICCID, etc. It may be difficult to troubleshoot since I don't have your iPhone in my hand to tinker with nor do I know the history of your iPhone. So, bear with me, and let's try this one more time. Make sure you have turned off Find My iPhone and signed out of iCloud on the iPhone. Then on the iPhone, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings (do this twice just in case). After that, do the followings and reply back with answers:

1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes with internet access and do a factory restore. Make sure you choose Restore iPhone and not Restore Backup. What message do you see from iTunes after factory restore?

2. There are two IMEIs on the iPhone XS. Type both IMEIs onto Ting BYOD checker and Sprint BYOD checker. What messages do you see?

3. Which IMEI (IMEI or IMEI2) did you give Sprint to pair with the physical SIM?

4. After the above factory restore via iTunes and disconnected from iTunes:
a. Insert Sprint SIM and restart (soft reset) the iPhone. What message do you see on the iPhone?
b. Insert T-Mobile SIM and restart (soft reset) the iPhone. What message do you see on the iPhone?

Update: Spent another 4 hrs on phone yesterday. Short version: The last person they connected me with was USA based tech support. She indicated that they were having problems provisioning iPhone Xs. Said she was going to look for a workaround. After about 30 min with her, we had data but no voice or SMS. Another 30 min with her and we finally got voice and text working too. In the end, this was all "on their side", but was a PITA to try to convince them of that.

Finally got my first bill for 4 lines after the activations. They are charging $18.88/month.

They charge a $10 surcharge a month. The remaining $8.88 is taxes. Is there supposed to be a surcharge?

Note 0:
-There is no contract. If u dont like service, you can port out anytime.
-Best strategy is before u ever call sprint, have your own eligible phone, the specific sim card for that phone, a number to port in from a non sprint "family of providers"[basically a sprint competitor] {it can be pre paid, post paid, from google voice, number barn, freedom pop}. {keep reading on how to get this done}
-While the line will be free [with auto pay], the tax+fees will be ~$4 each line (depending on where u live could be higher or lower).
- Depending on your credit history, most people will be eligible for 5 lines. They can be added all at once or u can add 1 line, see if u like service, and then add the others at a later time. Each line must be ported in and must be added by calling 866-782-8777 .
-Any additional line added will have the same terms (end date) as the original 1st line. (example: u created account in july 2018. 1 Y Free promo expires in july 2019. if u add a line in dec 2018, that line too expires in July 2019). Each and every number (first , 2nd or last) has to be ported in from a non sprint (or non sprint mvno) carrier.

so..~$20 for 4 lines..sounds bout right

read wiki for more info..

Yeah, after searching the thread, I found a post that mentions a $2.50 surcharge per month. So that makes sense.

From sprint offer page.

Wow - congratulations on your persistence and the resulting success!

I do not think we have seen anyone else with that puzzling a problem so far. Nor has Xs been a problem for most people although I do seem to recall there were some issues right at launch.

I do think also there have were some recent issues related to the VoLTE rollout.

In retrospect, I think the only thing we could have done differently is possibly refer you to USA based tech support earlier, but on the other hand there were some things worth trying that appeared to have a high likelihood of success based on past experience. macrokelvin in particular.worked very hard and thoroughly on this. It is highly likely that his very complete approach would have found any issue that you could fix yourself, had there been one to find.
