Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Yeah but my quandary is whether to get a year free on my SO's plan ($5/month) or to pay $25 more a month ($30) for a plan that gives 50GB hotspot (and will presumably go on indefinitely if I keep the line active). Is the $30 plan a good enough deal to forgo the free year since I likely won't find a deal like that for $30 next year?
i have decided i will only pay for $15 kick starter plan.
if not then keep riding the 1 Y F as long as it lasts

One person on reddit said they got $20 from Retentions on a Free plan retention offer, including hotspot, so it may get down to $15 yet.

But for now I decided not to even go for $20 (because SWAC may be a better overall bargain for my needs at $30 if I did want to start paying - but this depends on one's personal tradeoffs).

Yes @comintel, corrected, I meant hotspot.
So, pdanet will allow hotspot use even if the new plans don't allow it?

P.S. What is SWAC?

Yes it is a third party limited tether / hotspot for Android only.
http://pdanet.co/
However it is lightly documented and people often have trouble configuring it so I usually mention it only if asked.
It uses Wifi Direct rather than Wifi, and that is another long subject.
It is certainly not Plug N Play.
If you have a rooted phone, WifiTether router is still better.
And there are some other approaches too.

That is a great plan for Friends and Families of Sprint Employees. So if you know a Sprint employee, they can refer you.
For a while, referrals were being given out freely on the reddit Sprint group. However, that has largely stopped for now and they just recently banned posts requesting referrals because customers were aggressively begging for them and arguing that they should be entitled to one even though they already had a Sprint account on their SSN.

You can use the same sim again.
Judging by past experience, it is usually best to wait for the port to fail.
If you start cancelling ports that are still underway to try to make corrections, numbers can even get lost in the resulting confusion.

I wrote this before seeing hodaddy's post but his idea is good too. Regular TMobile customer service is terrible and they will not even investigate the status of ports properly so it is good to escalate it. Odds are it has already failed but regular customer service does not even have the tools to check real-time status.

You can also try calling T-Mobile Porting Dept at 1-877-789-3106 and see if they can fix it instead of cancel and re-port the number. Good luck and make more love Big Grin

ADDED: Also try 877-207-8169 if the rep from the above number refuses to help. Good luck.
I called the porting department at 877-789-3106 but once they found out I had a Pay As You Go plan, like comintel said they would, they did transfer me. I couldn't understand where I was being transferred to so after I was transferred I told the man my situation and asked what department he was in. he said he was in the porting department, again he was kind of hard to understand so I'm not sure if he was in the porting department I called originally or if he was in a porting department of the prepaid department. either way, he fixed my issue super easily! I gave him my info, he said yes it seems like your PIN for your account was wrong. I gave him the correct pin and less than a minute later he said the port was successful. within a few minutes I got an email from T-Mobile saying my number was active. from there I called Sprint and ported it over almost without anymore problems (the Sprint rep entered the T-Mobile account # incorrectly but it was an easy fix on Sprint's website).

it's kind of mind boggling how easy it was to fix the problem, yet I spent about 2 hours with T-Mobile last night trying to fix it with multiple reps

I want to give an honest thanks to macrokelvin, comintel, hodaddy, and everybody else in this thread helping people out and getting nothing in return. I was getting frustrated that I wasted a couple hours of my time, but thanks to you guys I could fix it without wasting a couple more. I hope everyone appreciates you guys as much as I do

However is it possible Apple requests it to protect its loaner phone?
I went to pickup my phone today. the apple supervisor lady said that if sprint asks, they say no changes to any insurance plans on the account.
But, since the sprint reps get paid on commission these things happen. I guess thats why other people have had problems with the protection plans being added on when getting this deal.

You are right!

But if you cancel promptly, charges will be small.

Actually, the $30 Retention Plan (w/50 GB hotspot) they put me on is the same price and similar to the SWAC plan with the exception of Hulu, which I don't care about.
It also "looks like" the SWAC is not difficult for a "new" customer to get. So, I guess my choices are:

1) Keep the $30 retention plan since the 50GB Hotspot is important to me; or
2) Port out/into my SO's Free Plan (and suffer with PDAnet for a year), and when that is over, (by that time I'll be a "new" Sprint customer), get the SWAC. The only chance I take with that approach is the possibility that SWAC won't be available or will be less desirable next year.

Right - everybody's personal tradeoff points, and opinions on probabilities of future Sprint directions - will be different.

Yes, so this is an interesting factoid, but not a practical mainstream option, in my opinion.

Also, it will not work on iOS 11.

TetherMe is an alternative that does work on iOS 11, but it also requires JailBreak.

So there is no practical solution on iOS for mainstream users, in my opinion.

The Android version, on the other hand, works on current releases with no rooting or modification required.

I did not bother mentioning the old FoxFi either because it does not work on current Android releases any more.

also one more thing I forgot to mention. the Sprint rep asked if I need the $15 protection and I said no because we have a backup phone in case anything happens. she said okay she understands. I check my account online afterward and sure enough she added it anyway.
online I went to My Sprint - Change Services and unchecked the protection plan. apparently that's not enough though because this morning the protection plan is still there.

It is very tricky.
You have to first uncheck the plan.
Then you have to check Save lower down as well.
Otherwise it does not get saved.

When it works, it will send you an email.

Or just Chat to remove it if you prefer.
