Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Did your brother choose carrier financing or Apple (partnered w/ Citizens One) financing? If Apple, his line should not be dropped.
I assume Apple financing. The screenshot he sent me says:

iPhone Upgrade Program

Works with your carrier

You're buying directly from Apple. Which means no more financing your iphone through your carrier or committing to a multiyear service contract. Your new iPhone will work with your carrier so you won't have to make any changes to your rate plan.

I chatted and called Sprint and of course they were clueless.

wait a minute.

why ask sprint?
they have nothing to do with what u did with apple.
perhaps it is u (or ur brother) that should take the responsibility of knowing what exactly u r doing

rather than slinging names at 3rd parties

I did call Apple and they said it shouldn't have impacted anything on the account and that my brother didn't even have the Sprint information they needed (Account PIN) or any of my personal information.

I mentioned to Sprint how a plan can change without verifying my account and they had no clue. You would assume they would know how someone can change a plan without personal information about the account. He doesn't even know the account number.

The entire thing is interesting. It would seem that the apple upgrade program has nothing to do with Sprint. You don't get billed by sprint, you don't pay Sprint for the phone, so I'm not sure what exactly would be the reason for losing the plan. If I were to take a guess, I'm guessing that the apple store activated the phone and whatever process they use flagged it as an upgrade. I wonder if it would have been possible to enter into the Apple upgrade program and just take the phone with you and have done it as just a phone swap yourself with Sprint chat.
Quote from heyeaglefn :
This is through the apple upgrade service, not a sprint upgrade or anything like that. The way he explained it was he pays a monthly fee and gets an iphone every year or something like that.

u the account holder did not authorize the upgrade.

I opened a ticket with Sprint, not confident anything with come from it. I explained it was an unauthorized purchase on my account and the plan shouldn't change but she just said it needs to be in a ticket and they will contact me in 3-5 business days.

I haven't followed your story so I'm not commenting on what happened..

If all it took was knowing someone's phone number to upgrade an account then anyone could do that though. That's one of the reasons sprint has you create a PIN for your account or add authorized delegates.

can't you just port that number out to T-Mo and then right port back in and be done with it?

it is just a second/third line? or is it the only line on the account?

porting out will cancel the line, and then porting in will just add a "new" line to your existing free year.

This is what I am going to suggest to him, only should cost a few bucks to do it.

like I said, I'm not commenting on the entire story, just that there was account information. Besides the phone number I assume the person also had a phone which means they would also have the esn.

Also, it isn't necessary to have the pin if a person knows or can guess the answer to one of the security questions.

I just got an email from Sprint putting his line back on the BYOD plan, so they must have agreed this was not authorized.
