It is financed through apple, so he pays like $30 bucks a month or whatever directly to apple.

My year is coming up in April. Is it best to port out before April? Or wait till the bill jumps to regular everything plan and then port? I didn't see any advice about this in the wiki.

I have Verizon right now. I want to port out to Sprint so that when the Samsung S10 comes out I can take advantage of promotions that apply to new lines and port back to Verizon.

How long does porting to Sprint usually take?

Before, to avoid a full priced bill.

Where would I get a new SIM card?

I have one number since November on the free unlimited plan. I would like to get my son a new iPhone and considering buying the iPhone X via Best Buy (they offer it under 24 month finance with half the price credited by Sprint). Since I get reimbursement from work for my cell plan I figured I can port my number from ATT, add a line with Sprint paid unlimited plan so I can get the discount on the iPhone. However, I am wondering if I can have a regular paid plan on one number and free unlimited for the other number under my the same name.

Same here mine is ending 4/30. Currently for new signups their promo end date is 3/31/20. I am sure they will extend this again to a later date. Will take the risk, and do it sometime in April. Don't want to do it now and have the date move past 3/20 in next month.

It used to be possible. Did this a year ago. I'm not sure if it still is.
Had the BYOD account in place and added a regular priced plan to the same account.

No. Read the offer and the painstakingly detailed wiki.
They want your line from a competitor.

to add..read the wiki.
lots of good info there.

Note 0:
-There is no contract. If u dont like service, you can port out anytime.
-Best strategy is before u ever call sprint, have your own eligible phone, the specific sim card for that phone, a number to port in from a non sprint "family of providers"[basically a sprint competitor] {it can be pre paid, post paid, from google voice, number barn, freedom pop}. {keep reading on how to get this done}
-While the line will be free [with auto pay], the tax+fees will be ~$4 each line (depending on where u live could be higher or lower).
- Depending on your credit history, most people will be eligible for 5 lines [the one SSN is good for all 5 lines]. They can be added all at once or u can add 1 line, see if u like service, and then add the others at a later time.
Each line must be ported in and must be added by calling 866-782-8777 .

-Any additional line added will have the same terms (end date) as the original 1st line. (example: u created account in july 2018. 1 Y Free promo expires in july 2019. if u add a line in dec 2018, that line too expires in July 2019). Each and every number (first , 2nd or last) has to be ported in from a non sprint (or non sprint mvno) carrier.
