Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

while i haven't followed ur story completely.
if u have proof of purchase of a BRAND NEW DEVICE PURCHASE, then the warranty on a new device will start on that date
many times, the warranty will start the day device sold to retailer like BB.

i had similar issue with a hp laptop bought from BB.
warranty listed was like a month after i bought it.
quick call to hp SCR with proof of purchase set the warranty to correct date.

also, if u buy a electronic device, generally not a good idea to open the device so late.

One possibility is ....But refurbished by Samsung should be just as good, as long as they will give you a full one year warranty.

One possibility is that the device was bought at retail in August 2017, later damaged by the purchaser and perhaps repaired by an unauthorized technician, and finally fraudulently "returned" just recently in place of an "unopened return or exchange" of a recent purchase of a new phone, which the purchaser fraudulently kept.

Another possibility is that a supplier of BestBuy is involved and that BestBuy has been delivered merchandise claimed to be new never-sold but actually mixed in with returned defective items. . These high volumes of older phones at huge discounts may be coming from lower-tier distributors.

I actually suspect the second possibility more, and suggested it to you in my original response.

Since you can likely prove the device was not new, you could probably charge it back on your credit card. But refurbished by Samsung should be just as good, as long as they will give you a full one year warranty.
I doubt it was ever previously purchased. Usually there is a default period for warranty after manufactue date. My guess phone had past this date so it showed warranty expired. Guessing mfg date was about May 2017 and default expiration was August 2018. The warranty should in actuality be 1 year from purchase date 12/18 so warranty would be valid to 12/19. I dont think samsung tracks warranty by first activation date like Apple.
Apple warranty starts on first activation date although they do say it starts on purchase date. I have never been asked for purchase info by Apple since they just track by activation date. They also do have a default period after manufacture date which you would need to contact them with purchase info if phone was activated past default. This happened to some in a walmart iphone 6 deal but Apple could also confirm phone was never activated before the proof of purchase date.
Unless defects were discovered within 14 days Best Buy has no obligation to accept return but if you can prove it was previously sold or activated you may have a case. Unfortunately you need to deal with Samdumb.

Thak you.

I doubt this is the case. The box doesn't appeared to be tempered with. The phone had original plastic skin on both the front and the back. IAll the other accessories were untouched as well.

The only possibility is that may be somebody returned it unopened, but the warranty clock is running based on orig purchase date. I am sure this happens more often than reported mostly bcoz people usually don't run into issues where they need to invoke warranty claim.

I have reached out to Bestbuy Corp folks via Bestbuy forum. Let's see what they find.

Thanks. I have the proof of purchase. Even then I haven't been able to have my warranty reset for the pass 4-5 days. I had the samsung ticket escalated today. I hope this thing gets resolved on Monday or so.

I agree that I should have opened the Electronics item asap to avoid DOA or any other factory defect within the 14 days window. After the I cancelled my new line with this phone, I thought I would give this as a gift. But that didn't work out so ended up keeping it for myself. I boguht this when BBY was running $244 promo in Dec. When the Samsung Cust Service saw my receipt with $244 price for S8+, they said it must be refurbished since it was such a low price and that's why my warranty shows as expired. I had to deal with many such idiots.

Just signed up for sprint to take advantage of $100 off the unlocked Galaxy S10 at best buy when you activate it on sprint. I noticed that I cant upgrade for 120 days, however in the FAQ it states:

if u go to apple or best buy and buy a phone outright (full msrp, no installment billing) it is yours and u can swap it anytime.

Will I be able to upgrade at best buy if Im paying the S10 fully?

If it causes a rate change - could I just cancel the plan right after I buy the phone?
If you go buy the phone out right. Full price and no discount then yes you can just do a swap. Just swap it though the portal then you will probably have to do a live chat to finish it up.

This is probably the most likely scenario as I had suggested in my message (2nd possibility). Samsung includes 15 month of warranty from the mfg date when it ships to the retailers/carriers. S8+ was released on April 21, 2017. With expiration of Aug 2018, it seems like the device was shipped around May 2017. Thx

I usually call in for a swap just so that I don't get charged any activation fee, etc.

I bought this phone back in December 2018, but just opened the box in mid Februrary. When I registered my phone at Samsung.com, it showed my warranty had already expired back in August 2018.
I think your device was on Bestbuy shelf for long time. It was NOT a return. With Samsung galaxy series, I know that if no one register the item, the warranty was set up by Samsung (15 months of delivery date I think). I had bought brand NEW Samsung S6 and S7 from Bestbuy few years ago. I did NOT get full warranty as well. Samsung S6 warranty was already expired by the time I got it (about 20 months after S6 release date). With S7, I think I only got 6 months warranty left. I never needed to claim warranty service, so I do not how it would be if I need them. I assume I would just need to provide proof of purchase, and Samsung would correct the 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Good luck!

There are many good choices right now with new model changes coming up.
Best functionality will always be had on Sprint optimized devices (meaning those sold by Sprint). eBay is loaded with these. "New other" open box.
Moto z2 force 1789-03
Essential phone.
Galaxy s8 models are supposed to be swappable to Sprint rom by simply inserting Sim in unlocked device. ( Others have posted this). Ironically the factory unlocked models will not get full Sprint operability but network unlocked models will. Others please correct me if wrong.

Other options: LG G6, G5 Sprint models used.

Moto x4, G6, unlocked models new ( search SD). These work on Sprint but not all features.
These are just some of your options.

No way this is the norm. Warrant starts from purchase date.

Call again and ask to speak to a Supervisor.

That has worked for quite a few people.

Ask whether you were turned down on a credit basis or an identity basis. If it is truly a credit basis then it may be harder.

If that does not work you can email VP Marci Carris (see Wiki for email address).
I called back and spoke with multiple supervisors who all told me the same thing so emailed the VP with my sob story. In literally 5min someone from management called me and was able to reset the the "60 day" clock, and now I'm in the process of finalizing the process, I was even granted 5 lines when I only needed 1.

My next headache is that I bought the LG G5 as suggested in the WIKI and I'm having the hardest time finding a compatible SIM for it. My local sprint store doesn't have any that match the phone (we checked them all) and I'm going to the corporate stores/apple today. Trying to avoid getting the simcard shipped because the 30 day return window for this phone is approaching and I don't want to have wasted the $70 on this thing.

Wow that is fantastic news for everyone who has problems re the credit check! Quite a few people have had success with supervisors but others not, in which case it is GREAT to know that VP Marci Carris is there, (A very small number have struck out even with her department - I guess not every single credit problem has a solution).

That phone takes an uncommon sim SIMGLW446C
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=125067466&x=5&y=1

You can get that sim at Best Buy as per
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=125152195&postcount=35163
if a Corporate store does not have it (they should).

(All non-Sprint BYOD phones are covered by the 4 in one kit, but this phone is not considered a BYOD phone because it is a Sprint phone that comes with the needed sim when sold new, and Sprint did not consider the case of somebody unnecessarily removing it when re-selling it. It is still available stand-alone as a repair part).

If my wife opens a free line in her name can we then port out our other 2 lines from the current free deal in my name to TMobile and soon after port them back into her new Sprint account? If so how soon?

I know if I want to start a new account in my name it's 45 days or do however this is a different situation.

TIA
