almost close to the end of first year. Got "sorry, that SIM can't be used on our network" using the t-mobile iccid bought last year on https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/brin...own-device

does that mean I have to get a new sim to port out? cant reuse that digital sim?

your situation is practically identical to mine (including age of DD).
i am big proponent of lg g5.
i know the g5 from the sellers on ebay work.
i cannot as confident about the htc 10, however, i dont think there should a problem.
make certain is a sprint htc10 .
it wouldnt hurt to get the imei from seller.

then just follow the wiki where it suggest how to check the eligibility of a phone (with a phone number u r certain will work, ie from att, tm or V)

good luck
Yes I asked the person to try checking the HTC 10 phone on Sprint imei number checker & gave him a Xfinity Mobile number to check which should work because it uses Verizon network. I also have 3 T-mobile free data on demand Mobile internet lines I can use too.

Make sure he checks it on the actual Sprint site itself.

A lot of third party checkers give wrong results for Sprint postpaid (they are oriented to Sprint mvno's)..

run it through the ting and tello checkers, then try sprint checker again.
worked for my Fi Moto G6...
How long did it take after cancelling your Google Fi service, before you were able to pass the Sprint EMEI/Phone number checker?

When I cancelled my Fi service an hour ago, there was this msg on the FI screen: "Your cancellation is pending and will take effect once your new provider asks us to release your phone number." I wonder if that pending cancellation will be a problem?

Currently the Ting checker accepts a signup. So does the Tello checker, although Tello says "Your phone is currently active with another provider" and I can port my number over to Tello.

I wonder if I just need to wait a day, or if I need to explicitly call Google Fi to have them cancel all the way? And in that case, I wonder if I will lose my number and not be able to transfer if Fi fully releases everything.

You need to port out your number to TMobile Prepaid or H2O or whoever as part of the first step and to preserve it.

Then after that port it from there to Sprint after resolving any remaining phone eligibility issues..

I did that, but still have to call via phone to get the $15 credit back. Dishonest, they told me. Oh, when you activate your phone, you MUST add insurance.

So many of their reps know so little - it is sad.

When cancelled, it will automatically be credited back on a pro-rata basis if not entirely.

Here is an example if a refund copy/pasted from my own bill

Cancelled: Nov 07 - Nov 28 Sprint Complete - protection for smartphone - Includes insurance -$11.00

Plans & Equipment -$11.00

Note the minus sign.

(In this case I added it myself, then later cancelled it).

Damn a lot of people were buying Google Fi phones a couple months ago with the idea of using on Sprint free service. At the time I don't recall people mentioning this hassle signing up with Sprint. I have only 6 days until leaving on a trip out of the country, not much time waiting for SIMs or things to happen.

I could easily temporarily sign up with Ting since I already have an account and phone with them, but if I have to wait for a Ting SIM and full activation before I can then sign up with Sprint, the time window probably won't suffice. Frown

By the way I had my son on same Sprint free year plan a while back no hassles having to do intermediate port jumps etc. He wasn't beforehand on Google Fi though. Sounds like Google Fi to Sprint Free is not the way to go for low hassle.

There are a few ways to cancel the Sprint complete care insurance.
Easiest is online from your mySprint account. Go to services for each phone device/line and untick the box. When you open your new account call CS and ask for your Sprint account #, since you'll need it to register for an online account if your phone # does not allow you to register.
The new Sprint account needs about 24 hours to update so you may not see that option on the same day you register your online account. Give it a day or so.

Another is by chat but you must have a registered online account to access it, so the way above can be tried first.

A third way can be done by following the automated prompts of the Sprint phone system. There is an option there somewhere to delete services.

If all else fails call CS. You'll be transferred to the insurance dept. and you'll be pressured to keep it but just be firm and have the rep cancel it. It takes 2 business days to become effective.
You can try this last option as soon as you get off the phone with the Philippines reps after your new Sprint account line(s) are set up.

There must be some good incentive for the Philippines reps to register as many customers as possible for the insurance that they keep regardless if the customer cancels it later, considering that they probably make a few $/hr. Say, the incentive is 25-50 cents per enrolled customer insurance that can be some serious money for an 8 or 10 hour day.

So that's understandable but not less than dishonest.
Considering that this is easily removed from the Sprint account later, I let them add it on a couple of phones and removed it within the same day.
Consider it a philanthropic act!!!
Especially since one gets free unlimited service for a year.
