What's the next cheapest/easiest option other than TMobile to port out/in?
I posted a couple of days ago that I tried to port to TM online but its been almost 2 days and the port still hasn't gone through. TM keeps telling me its fine, but I've passed 2 different timelines they've given me for when it should be complete and still nothing. I am still making calls on Sprint w/ my Sprint SIM and the # still shows in my Sprint account online.
I had another TM SIM and went into the online process again but when I enter my # now it says that its ineligible to port (I assume because they show that it is a TM # now). So I thought maybe I could just port out to a different carrier before TM ports to cut them out of the process.
I just ordered sims from speedtalk mobile. It's $5 per sim and free shipping with $25. My plan doesn't expire until July but figure I would change over 5 lines in case this offer does stop in April.

Question for experts (on 2nd year on this plan already).

1. Planning to buy iPhone XS max from someone locally. Verified IMEI on sprint checker and it came out good. I want to swap device (start using this new phone by transferring from my current phone). How soon after I swap the device, can I use my current phone to add another line (I know I have to port number)?

2. When I check the IMEI of phone I am planning to buy on Ting, it says it is compatible with both GSM & CDMA. However, if I check IMEI on verizon, it says not eligible. Is there a different model for verizon? Seller is using the phone on cricket wireless (AT&T network, and says phone is unlocked).

Thanks for your help.
Go to an apple store to make sure the phone is unlocked, just because the sprint checker says it will work is NO guarantee. Did the same thing, purchased XS Max locally, ran it through sprint checker, asked in chat if all was good, sprint swore it was golden but would never work. Went to apple store and they confirmed it was locked to Metro even though sprint said it was good.

I agree, the poster had better be careful.
To start with, they can order the GSX report for that IMEI for 99 cents on EBay. It will show what locks are on it.

I'm on my 3rd yr and want to swap with the iPhone XR.

Will any unlocked iPhone purchased from the Apple store work with Sprint?

I have an Amex offer with AT&T, pay $175 get 100 back on 4 credit cards, so I was thinking of purchasing an iPhone at the Apple store, then have it financed through AT&T, then pay the iPhone and then move it to Sprint on my current free plan.

Anything I should watch out for?
Thinking of the same idea. What will the XR cost at the Apple store, and how do you set it up for financing through AT&T? Won't you be required to get a (fairly expensive) AT&T plan at the same time?

Not very knowledgeable about iPhones but IIRC they usually come in 2-4 variants, and the AT&T one is usually different from the Sprint one. The "unlocked" (presumably all-carrier) version at Apple is financed through Barclaycard, not AT&T.

That was true for older models but is not the case any more. They switched to use only the Intel chip and there is just the one all-carrier model now. They are all the same. So the Verizon problem is concerning. It should work fine on Verizon too.

Try this alternate checker for the IMEI alone.

Thanks for the reply. Will meet the seller at apple store and confirm everything.

Question, if phone is not locked to any carrier, is it possible that phone still wont work on verizon? Like, are there any model number differences that I need to be aware of, or are there many variants out for iPhone XS max?

If Ting says phone is compatible with both GSM & CDMA, and phone is not locked to any carrier, it should be good to go on any carrier (Verizon, sprint, ATT, TMo & world-over (well mainly))?

Thanks.

No.
U.S. XS Max are all the same model; there are no variants. Sounds like $$$ is owed to Verizon.

There are no model differences so there could be a problem that affects all carriers but maybe only Verizon has bothered looking at the GSX report.

We are talking about a US model. "World over" is overstating it.

The GSX report is only 99 cents!

Is there a minimum wait time if I am porting out a current Sprint # (non-account holder), then signing up that number as the primary account? I was planning to do it everything in one day on Saturday.

Also, is T-Mobile requiring you to put up money for the prepaid plan if you port to them? I recall signing up via customer service and not having to load funds last year.

So I signed up, everything went smooth, had a message to call in to finish porting my number and the person porting my number switched me to a $140 /m plan without my consent I'm assuming. When I go to services it's on 40GB shared data plan, wtf?

It's obviously a mixup, but not unique when you do anything other than sign up by phone with everything already in hand and do it then and there with no callbacks involved.

Because of the high rate of further problems and long delays when people try to fix these mixups when they do occur, I think I would just go nuclear right away and email [email protected], Senior VP for Customer Management Marci Carris and ask her to fix it. She has done so for many. I would like to credit lou2004 for this ruthless but effective approach.

Dealing with lower level staff may or may not go anywhere inside any reasonable period of time.
