Anyone tried Sprint lease program? Any caveats for BYOD subscribers, and after 18mth if I decided to keep a device are the previous payments deducted from the final price? I'm looking to upgrade from IPhone 7 to XR

BYOD customers are not privy to Sprints best lease deals iirc. If you were to get a lease deal, your BYOD will expire before 18 month lease term.
So you will be paying remainder ofthe lease on a different plan.
All lease deals require a 6 month lump payment at the end to own the phone.
Generally not good for BYOD

Lines can still be added to existing accounts? Also any penalty for cancelling a line?

I see the wiki has thankfully now been updated to answer the first question.
There is no penalty to cancel a line but see the Wiki for the best way to do so.

For instant release just port out to H2O and let the number die there. H2o sims available at BB and target for 1.00
Quote from hodaddy :
Edited to confirm it will not release til end of bill cycle so only porting out or swapping will release it instantly.
Hmmmm interesting, thanks for the info Hodaddy. I may try closing the line just before the bill cycle ends, that seems like it may be the quickest (ie don't have to wait for h20 to retire the number if I port out).

In re: to swapping being instant, are we talking about swapping a device between two separate accounts, or am I misunderstanding your post? I was under the impression that wouldn't be possible.....but I don't have much experience with Sprint.....so I could be totally off the mark on that one.

Quote from hodaddy :
Of course those phones will then take on the number you are swapping into.
I'm guessing there is no way to avoid that regardless of what I do unless I;
1. port out the number
2. Sprint allows me to port back in under the free 1 year byod terms....and I guess that issue is still up in the air since other SD'rs are getting conflicting reports from sprint reps.

I'm not terribly concerned about it for me since I route everything through GV anyway, but it would be a plus if I could keep my GFs number from her account when I swap her iphone to my account.

My previous post for others in the same situation

Hmmmm does SD have spoiler/hidden tags in the forum software...I'm not finding any. It would be easier than a link back to my post.

It would indeed take a mandatory phone-only conversation with Retentions (a conversation some people dislike having to go though) to cancel it via Sprint (online cancellation is not allowed)
Ah, yeah I did forget about the sheer joy that would entail Frown Yeah, maybe a port out would be a better route.

I just realized the wiki has been updated in re: to adding new lines to teh plan, and that we can continue to do so until the end of the plans life.

So If I port out of my/our old 1 year byod sprint plan to H20 and port back into a different byod 1 year free plan on a new line, I should be able to keep my number (I have two more lines I can create/activate).

Would there be any issues that I should be aware of when porting back into sprint under a different 1 year byod account from h20? Do I need to wait or can I do all the port ins/outs in a day or two?

Once the lines are clearly off your original Sprint account (i.e. they no longer appear on the account's online dashboard), you can start the port from H2O to the new Sprint account. I ported to T-Mobile and once all lines were active with them, I started the ported to a new Sprint account within 30 minutes.

Thanks for the info Rolanda_Shaniqua Smilie The peeps in reddit are telling me I have to wait 45 days, but I think they are confusing a port into sprint with a new customer account.

Right. As long as you're porting from H2O to a new Sprint account (not the one the numbers were on before the port to H2O), you should be fine. You can even use the same Sprint sim cards.

I am straightening them out on reddit r/sprint. (They are a little out of touch there - the Sprint staff there are mainly Retail staff who had no involvement with the free plan).

I posted:

Quote :
There is no problem at all - just do it.

The Free plan comes already pre-approved for porting in 5 lines "at any time," to quote the Plan. The provisions affecting you are frozen in your plan document and have nothing to do with whether the plan is currently open to new takers or not.

The offer has closed to new takers and that has no effect whatever on your pre-approved lines. When you port in an additional line, you are NOT signing up again under the (now expired) offer. You are just using one of your 5 lines. The terms will be those of the first line, including end date.

There is never any restriction based on phone number or the prior history of the phone on the same plan or any plan. That has nothing to do with anything.

The 45-day rule is a criterion for eligibility for taking up new-customer-offers and has no relevance in the current context since you are already signed up.and are not taking up an offer.

Want to share some info I learnt from agents in creating new account on the last day 4/4 and moving a second line today 4/6, both from another BYOD plan that had a 2019 promo end date.

Porting in and out from Tmobile
* first line was setup on their old "legacy prepaid" system and account number is 1 followed by the phone number
* second line even after repeatedly asking for old/legacy platform and being transferred 2-3 times, ended up being on their new system also known as "2.0" prepaid system. asked for the account number and after some pushback he shared it. Also was able to register with a Tmobile id and verify the account number online.

Porting back into Sprint
* first line was ok, everything as expected. Took the protection plan and got it removed later from chat
* adding second line today turned out to be more nuisance than I expected. Got disconnected after 20mins on first call after being told that order was close to being done. Got disconnected after 5-7mins on second call and, did not get a return call even after requesting it upfront. On the third call the rep himself volunteered that the first two disconnects were likely calls hung up, because the line did not have a "protection plan". He promised not to hang up and proceeded to try convince me to take the protection plan. I agreed and he took all the info again and completed the order. At the end he said the second line did not qualify for the protection plan so he did not add it.

Swapping/changing devices in the future
* the rep who helped with first line mentioned the 120 days but clarified thats for upgrade. She mentioned swapping is possible but to do it online because if any agent tries to do it, she said it would end the 1-year free promo
* the rep today said its not possible to do a swap before 120 days

I just tested the chat bot and it seems to have swap option. Any success stories in being able to swap and change devices before 120 days?

Thanks for the report!

We have actually covered the Sprint side of this I think over a hundred times and it is all in the Wiki. I am not criticizing you - it is largely an artifact of the format, which has no way of indicating how much is in the Wiki. There is really no doubt on any of the Sprint issues. Nothing has changed in going on two years.

Many reps lie habitually. The first one was honest and correct. We know a lot more about all of this, after hundreds of posted experiences, than any of the SALES reps.

Always take the insurance during the call, and after finishing cancel it via Chat. When people do that, it is a non-issue. That is actually Win/Win for both you and the rep, the way they do things. But people have no way of knowing that.

Yes you can swap at any time, starting at DAY ONE, FROM YOUR DASHBOARD or by CHAT. It is all in the Wiki! We all do them all the time.

I was definitely going to take the insurance like I did on first line, but it never even came up in the conversations with the two reps I got disconnected with or as alleged by the third rep they hung up on me.

Thanks for confirming about swapping devices. I read it in the wiki, and after getting bit of conflicting info, just wanted reaffirmation. Good pointers on using dashboard or chat option. Thanks.

Oh I see. That's perfect then and I would not disagree with anything! Some line drops are indeed just accidental.

Definitely we have never seen any problem with swaps where people own the phones outright. The 120 days actually applies only to eligibility for Sprint special phone deals.
