I added a second line today.

- $30 Activation fee was waived
- I was told I could add up to 3 additional lines at any time up to my plan expiration (4/30/2020).
Thanks for confirming that it is still exactly what it says in the plan contract. 5 lines is, of course, the number you were originally approved for.

That is clearly sponsored content for a law office. I guarantee no legal action will be taken by the government and Sprint will pay the scummy lawyers to go away.
The original WSJ article is not about the lawyers. It's about Sprint begging the regulators to approve the deal because they are in far worse financial shape than the recently added subscribers would imply. Sprint is admitting they added post-paid subscribers by giving away free lines.

Interesting. As another data point, the version I was told today, from a seemingly knowledgeable rep, is that today 4/18 is in fact the last day you can add a line to the free account, AND

1 U must have had ordered the SIM Card b4 Apr 5
2 Have a non-sprint phone number to port in
3 Have an eligible device's IMEI

Perhaps, as Sprint goes, it's YMMV

Those are the current conditions for adding a *first* line (recognizable from the reference to "before 4/5").. They would not have been satisfied even now for the line you just added because you would not have ordered the sim by April 4. So obviously they do not apply to second and later lines.

Maybe she is thinking along the lines that you cannot add a second line unless you can first add a first line, which would be true if one were not already a subscriber.

It is not really their job to predict what you will be able to do at a future date. That is specified in your plan, or, more generally from their point of view, day-by-day by their supervisors or by future announcement. They'll know properly tomorrow how to do their job of adding lines tomorrow.

I missed the message about 4/18 and just tried to add a line. The representative and supervisor both told me the unlimited promotion has ended and the new line would be $25/mo, but the two free lines would remain the same. This is unfortunate. I'll call back and try again.

If calling them still leads nowhere repeatedly, I would try Chat as there is a chance Chat is doing it now. Also try at a different time of day when different staff will be there.

Eventually if necessary you can escalate to [email protected] (Sprint Senior VP of Customer Management Marci Carris) on the basis that:
(1) you were pre-approved for 5 lines and the plan says those lines can be added "at any time"
and
(2) reps said earlier that lines can be added until the plan end date (you can send some quotes of reps quoted in earlier posts on this forum)

but first I would wait to see what others post when they try over the weekend.. I think it is likely that it is just confusion and that the policy will get straightened out by early next week if not right away.

My free year is ending soon and I'm considering switching to Mint because I only use less than 2GB data a month.

Do I need to call or chat with Sprint CSR to cancel my account or porting my number to Mint is enough? TiA

Port out your number. That's the best and quickest way to cancel your sprint account (provided you don't have other lines active)

When you port it out, it cancels that line. If that's the only number on your account, there's nothing further you need to do to cancel.

I am reporting that I just ported in an additional line from my Google Voice number this evening (April 20, 2019) to get the free year unlimited. Same plan as my primary line. I am paying around $3.50 in taxes each line per month. I told the Sprint sales person on the phone that I wanted to add an additional line. I said Sprint indicated that I could add a line anything to get the same deal (I got the words from this thread on Slickdeals). She initially had to check with her manager for a couple of minutes. After that, the process was smooth.
