It's news. Whether it's actually "good" or not, remains to be seen I guess. Committing to "lower prices" and speed the 5G rollout certainly sounds like a plus, but there may be loopholes.

Well. Ajit was against it before. Now he's for it. That's progress. Now, we just need to get past the DOJ and individual states suing to block. Easy peasy.

You can kill a line by porting out to literally ANY other service provider. If you don't care about continuing cellular service, you can port out to Sideline [sideline.com] for free. Your S3 is strictly CDMA, so if you need continued service your options are Boost, Virgin, Twigby, Tello, and Ting. Oh, and RedPocket I guess.
I didn't realize it would be so easy. ported to Tello for three bucks and canceled Tello. Repped for spoon-feeding!

Good news also your S3 does have a SIM card but is not removable. The ICCID is in settings/more/about device/status and would be needed for LTE on Sprint.

It's always like that, they say they won't raise prices.... Then after a year or 2.......they will find a reason.

If you move to tello and cancel, will your imei number get stuck on tello? Can you check your imei on Sprint if it is eligible? Thank you.

I know you know the answer to this, Gengis. Cancelling a line with most service providers (including Tello) doesn't free your phone until the end of the billing cycle. To truly free a line, swap in a another device.

Oh the online portal does allow.

Select the phone you want to swap out. Click activate. It will prompt for new imei and iccid and usually transfer you to chat to complete.

Or if you prefer, just Chat. Use the term IMEI swap.

Do not call or go to a store.

You MUST have the exact correct sim for the specific phone model before doing either of these. (Sprint does not have all-purpose device-independent sims). If you bought it new, a Sprint phone will come with the sim. Otherwise you can order it for $2.99 - the wiki has details..

To avoid surprises, check the imei in the Sprint byod checker first also (but stop before proceeding to a paid plan of course),

What phone did you buy, by the way?

Choose activate device on My Sprint and activate it on your existing line. It will automatically swap out the old phone once activated.

When I typed in the IMEI on the Sprint website this morning, I get "Sprint service already activated. This phone has already been activated for Sprint service." I didn't try it when I was on Tello.
