If not, what is cheapest option for porting to oblivion (ideally, something available at B&M, so I can get immediately)?

No sim needed.
That is what their site implies too.
Update:
It seems there is a new $35 KickStart Plus version WITH 50 GB Hotspot so try to go that way. That will be HALF the $70 cost you mentioned. It is not totally trivial to "convert" (which is theoretically not allowed) but should be doable with some port outs and port ins or in other ways..

The Basic KickStart will now get a small hotspot, which is new.
However these new KickStart versions are not yet showing for most people.
You are not using the promo as such.
You are using your existing grandfathered plan which includes pre-approval to add additional lines up to 5 lines total "at any time.".
Multiple people have posted that they have added lines to their existing plan in the last few days.
Use that language and be insistent and you will be fine. It can take a few tries.
Many of these reps are just trying to trick people into buying a paid plan, just as they always have in other ways..

The free plan got over and I moved on to other provider.
I got a call from Sprint saying they can offer-
1. $50 credits and
2. Kick start plan
Or
1. Basic plan $30 per month talk text and 2gb. $120 credits spread across 12 months - $10 a month and
2. Lease any phone at online prices
Doesnt look good at all.

That is more or less the standard recovery offer for one line from
https://www.sprint.com/en/landing...4:539
They cut it back a little for KickStart.

I'll pass that offer then.
After using it for one year, my opinion about Sprint has improved a lot.
I understand why they can't offer better credits, at the end of the day they should make profit to stay in the game.
I have two different accounts with Sprint
1. under my wife's name, we have a $15 unlimited kickstart plan in place for about a year
2. under my name, we have a free BYOD plan and our free year expires 7/31
I am trying to determine my best option once the freee BYOD plan expires - as I am not paying $60
Can I:
1. Add a line under my wife's $15 kickstart account - even if it is coming from Sprint (ie my free BYOD account)?
2. Move my free BYOD account to the new $25 kickstart account without porting out?
If I have to port out to a different carrier for a while, how long to I need to be gone to qualify for the new $25 kickstart plan?
I also saw from previous posts that they may offer a come back plan / offer once you leave - How long do you need to be gone before you receive that offer? And what is the monthly cost under that offer?
I understand I can call retention and try to negotiate something - so I am trying to get my ducks all lined up first knowing my best options. I would prefer not to have to port out and later port back in but can do so if need be (i will need to find a new MVNO to use in that interim time)
Thanks

There are limitations and pros and cons and better choices on some phones (you did not mention your phone) as has been discussed but I do not want to write a long-form essay covering all possibilities as to what you might be looking for.

Ie could I port out to Tello?
Or do I need to port out to a T-mobile, ATT or Verizon MVNO?
Thanks
