So my byod free plan expired 07/31 but my billing cycle was 06/29-07/28. I spoke to one rep by phone and 3 in chat and I got different stories... Some said I needed to cancel my account by 07/28, one said by 7/31, and another explained I would still be covered by the free plan into the next billing cycle and I'd need to change my account by 08/28... It was explained that since the expiration of the plan was on 07/31 and that was after the start date of my next billing cycle the free plan would carry over. Some said they'd prorate and others say they never prorate. I want to forward the chat transcripts to sprints corporate office. Fascinating read... Anyway, I wound up porting out to Tings $20 a month for 20g plan on 07/30 so we shall see if the next bill will be prorated, the full amount of new service for 2 unlimited lines $100, or the amount I've been paying, $6.06 for 2 lines... Man I'm gonna miss that. I had great service with sprint and I so needed the savings it gave me this last year, so THANKS SPRINT... But seriously, work on training some of your reps... Getting so many variations of answers to the same question is mind numbing.

Anyway real quick a lil off topic, my roommate on sprint for ten years two lines, doesnt pay attention to her bills is paying just about $250 a month. There's the $75 for the first line and $55 second line, $15x2 for sprint complete and of course the leasing of her phones every month at about $25 each (once the lease was completed she had no clue it just rolled over to a monthly lease... Im like, you do not own the phones unless you bought them at the end of your contract... She couldn't believe it.) with that $ 7.99 spending charge and taxes, yah it comes in just under $250. She lost her mind when I got a year free when I signed up and even madder when she saw the $25 Kickstart plan. I told her she needed to dump sprint and just go to Ting... Showed her how simple it was for me. She's old school though and doesn't like change, but I want to help her save some money.

I called sprint on her behalf and tried the closing the account routine, retention offered very little. I wanted to find a way to get her on the Kickstart plan. The rep offered to add a line but couldn't convert a line.

That got me to thinking....she can't change her number due to the type of work she is in and the clientele she's built the last decade. Could I add that Kickstart line, then in a week or so port her old phone number to say Google voice or an actual provider then do call forwarding so the calls are sent to her new number, or she just uses the provider I move her to for a month or "45" days, then port her number back into Sprint on a new Kickstart plan then cancel the other Kickstart number. Oh, by the way, she only needs one number... I convinced her to oust the other line, the insurance, and we'd buy outright a new phone to start over with.

Some might say that's snaking the system, but I think sprints snaked her plenty and have no problems getting her a plan that they offer everyone but their own loyal customers....

Thoughts?
Yeah you should be able to do that.

Actually there is a way to convert the line to KickStart without porting out which I posted at https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?p=128482822#post128482822 .

Most/many people have done it that way successfully.

As to the billing, yes it would indeed be free to 8/28 in the example you gave according to my interpretation of what our experts here have said in the past, but it would not be fair to blame them if for whatever reason that does not work out.

As far as your suggestion, that pink refers someone going from BYOD free plan to Kickstart. I was inquiring about my friend whose the 9 year sprint and paying 3+ times the amount of the Kickstart plan. I did call and say i wanted to to schedule a closing date and was offered a $10 price break on her $250 bill. I declined the offer and asked again to schedule the account closure. She didn't like that and got a little huffy replying "just tell your new provider to put in a port out request in with us and your account will automatically close once ported out..." and without missing a beat followed "if you have any other questions feel free to call us back. Thank you for calling sprint", and then she disconnected.

So I assumed a 9 year account holder would be more difficult to accomplish the switch, but I'll try again if you think I should.

Thanks for your quick reply!

It is just the same for a 9 year old postpaid account.

The best thing is to cancel it effective the end of billing period several weeks away. Anything else is complicated. I can see them being hesitant to cancel a long -term account but they have to do it.

When you call back, I would suggest get the person's name or other sufficient identification up front. That intimidates them when you do that. Sometimes it takes a few tries. If they still will not do it after several tries we can tell you how to escalate it.

Since you are porting out at least 2 lines, why not port out all 3 and then port one back as a Kickstart line.
Sorry, I thought that's what I was describing above.

Quote from comintel :
POr better, port out two, port back one to Kickstart, then port out the remaining non-Kickstart one.
I thought they wouldn't let me port one back in as Kickstart if I still had an existing Sprint account. Was I wrong? If I can leave one or two in place while I port the other out and back in, that's way better. is that what you mean?

Quote from comintel :
PYou cannot switch to Kickstart in place without more elaborate maneuvers.
What are the elaborate maneuvers? I tried calling today and asking them to set my account to terminate on the final date (it turns out I was wrong again, and it's actually 8/20/2019), but they told me "we have no way to set an account to terminate at a future date." Did I misread the instructions?

Quote from comintel :

P.S. It is called Kickstart. "Kickstarter" is a fund-raising project.
lol, sorry!

I appreciate your help. I'm going to make a separate comment as well with some other questions I have, because it seems like if people see a comment with quotes in it, they ignore it. I hope that's okay

Hi. I'm trying desperately to get caught up, but I really need some help. It turns out my BYOD plan ends 8/20/2019!

1. Is this the best thread to get answers in? I'm definitely seeing lots of helpful people, so I'm not complaining or anything. I just want to make sure I'm not being annoying by posting in the wrong place.

2. When I looked at available plans while signed in to my Sprint account, it seemed to say that I could switch my 3 lines to the vanilla Unlimited plan and only pay $75 per month. Since I have 4 lines (sorry, I thought it was 3, I forgot about my MIL leeching off of usSmilie ), is there even any advantage to me trying to sign up for Kickstart?

3. Is the consensus that Kickstart is the best option? Are there any better plans out there, even prepaid?

4. What are the fastest options for porting out and back in. What about the cheapest?

5. I thought people here were saying to call Sprint and ask them to set your account to terminate on your account's last BYOD day. I called, and they claimed they "don't have the ability to set an account to terminate in the future." I thought maybe it was because I was too close to the termination date, but they said that makes no difference and they can't do it for anyone. Did I misunderstand something?

Thank you for your help everyone!

There are few combinations and permutations that amount to the same thing in a broader sense.

There is no problem doing that. KickStart requires only a new line, not a new user.

You've got the idea but do not use the words "at a future date". I was only describing the idea. Say, "at end of billing cycle" and they will understand.

Thanks. I actually did say "at the end of the billing cycle." They are the ones who said "at a future date." I will try again, I guess?

So, you're saying I can leave 3 lines on BYOD (I realized I have 4 in total, not 3, forgot about the mother in law...), port the other one out, then port it back in as Kickstart without any problems? I guess I've misread a lot of posts in this thread!

What are people seeing as the best option for porting?

Again this is a reason to get off as quickly as possible.

I do not know if it applies in this case but I would a least give it a try and possibly escalate if they deny it..
Can you help me understand how that would apply to me? I'm finally able to start working on this, and trying desperately to get something done before end of day on the 8th!

I had T-Mobile sim but $3.00 plan is no longer available. I used a 3x TracFone sim that I had and ported out for $9.99 (plus$.78 fees, etc). Port took less than an hour, all done online. The next day I ported back to unlimited kickstart which took about 4 hours. Sprint told me to contact TracFone to start the port. Not sure if $9.99 plan is available without 3x bucket sim..
I'm sorry, but I'm not understanding some of this (like what is a 3x bucket sim?). Is there somewhere I can find more retails?

anyway.

However ordinarily that rate is only for new lines, so assuming you were offered that by Recovery, it is a good deal for an existing customer, yes.
I just signed in and clicked on "shop new plans" while signed in. It shows unlimited basic for $100 whether your have 2, 3, 4, or 5 months. Shouldn't I just switch to that if I have 4 lines? Or does it go up after a certain period, where Kickstart is supposed to last "forever"?

1. Yes.
2. I replied originally on the basis of 3 lines, as you mentioned. With 4 lines for $100 https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/pl...-plan.html you may prefer that offer since it has added perqs including some hotspot and Hulu. To get it, though, you may also have to cancel or port out since that price may be for new users only. Maybe Retentions will give it to you without that, maybe not. Also that price will go up in a year (thanks edog11).
3. You would have to say what your requirements are for data
4. I will skip and leave for others.
5. Assuming that you called the specific numbers I posted, It's just miscommunication. Some people have experienced that. Ask it this way: "If I cancel today, when will it be effective". They will tell you a date at the end of your billing period and now you are both talking the same language. As unclebisbest points out, you cannot call general Sprint numbers - you didn't do that, did you? You need to call the specific Retentions and other numbers I mentioned at https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?p=128482822#post128482822

I just signed in and clicked on "shop new plans" while signed in. It shows unlimited basic for $100 whether your have 2, 3, 4, or 5 months. Shouldn't I just switch to that if I have 4 lines? Or does it go up after a certain period, where Kickstart is supposed to last "forever"?
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/pl...-plan.html

That plan does have some advantages such as Hulu and Hotspot.

But obviously price would go up sharply if you later moved off some lines to another carrier for whatever reason, or later wanted to take advantage of future special offers on just some lines.
.
Yes you can consider both options.

However 4/5 lines for $100 offer is only temporary. Price goes up 9/30/2020 (thanks edog11).

You cannot combine Kickstart with leasing a phone from Sprint under its usual 18 month lease offer offered with regular plans.

If you would be bringing your own phones anyway, this is no loss of course!
