Well that should work on other carriers should it not (assuming you got it unlocked by Sprint)?

Others here know that phone so can say better than me.

My googling has suggested it only works on Sprint's network, but I'm only going but what I've read. I wish there was a definitive guide for each phone model.

it's the Sprint model, LS997, if that changes anything.

It will work once unlocked. All Sprint phones of that time frame have the main bands of other carriers so they can roam.

Even on GSM? I could have sworn that I read it only worked on CDMA, and even then it was barely functional if not on Sprint's network. Can you share where you're finding this? Not because I don't believe you, but because you're obviously better at searching than I am. Thanks as usual!

It is all over the web. I found numerous hits.

Here is just one example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/co...v20_ls997/ hits on the first search.

Anyway, as I said, ALL Sprint phones of that era or newer have GSM bands because Sprint roams on AT&T in some areas. Also people have to be able to travel in Europe and Canada.

Or you can just look at the LS997 specs and you will see it has them.

None of the above is to say it is going to have every last band....

Nice, thanks for the heads up! Missed the FP alert somehow? My dad's line got both as well, unfortunately I did not.

That is a very useful link Comintel! The Hello Mobile is listed as 15GB for $25/month when it is actually unlimited high speed data. I may look into that. I will probably latch onto the 12gb/month $45 for 3 month deal that Mint has right now and see if anything good and permanent pops up in the mean time.

I remember Mint throttled down when it was congested when I used them about a year ago so not looking forward to that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Still kicking myself for not getting on Kickstart at $25 since I want a little stability, unlimited high speed, and save some money at the same time.
I went with mint 12gb plan and have been very happy. I endured my 2 years of free sprint Service with poor reception and speed at my work. Glad to be on a T-Mobile network. And I can actually use data while on a call

Thanks, I didn't have the "Just For You" area, so I was browsing that Fp thread you linked and some have mentioned scrolling down under "Brands". So that's where I redeemed them! Wink

I'm obviously even dumber than I thought. Thank you for the gracious help without the mocking that I deserve. I don't understand how I searched so poorly. I found Reddit posts with people saying it would only work on Sprint network when I searched. I dunno what I did wrong.

May I ask another stupid question? Will I need a different SIM if I go with a GSM provider? The SIM I have came in a card that only had logos for Verizon, Virgin, and Boost, so I assume it's only good for CDMA?

Also, with the LTE bands... The Reddit post says the only way to check what bands are used in your area is with an app to detect the bands. Does that mean I have to actually sign up for that provider and use the app over cellular data? Is there no reliable way to know before hand?

I was finally able to rep you again. You're a saint.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes you would need sims. In GSM world, every MVNO provider provides their own special sim that you have to use. First of all, is the phone unlocked? If not you will need to start in on that ASAP with Sprint. If you are off Sprint but were on Sprint for 50 days, they may do it or they may not. MVNO's cannot unlock it. Unless you resolve that, you are nowhere. Some phone can be hacked easily. You will have to search on that.

I think it is easiest just to signup to check bands, presumably with an AT&T mvno or maybe a TMO one. That is the only reliable way. But you can just get some AT&T low-cost one to test with. Odds are good that you would be covered by the bands that the phone has in most of the country in any AT&T mvno. That is much more the case than for a Sprint or TMobile mvno.

Man....I don't want to put any of this carrier bloatware in my phone. But looks tempting, they been giving pretty good giveaways lately.
