AT&T PREPAIDSM 8GB Online Offer
$25 monthly when you prepay $300 for 12 months

Looks interesting to me. Assuming AT&T coverage is good, are the speeds for prepaid better than MVNOs? Are there any downsides with this except the prepay?
It has been debated a little but I think there is evidence that AT&T Prepaid is higher priority and higher speed than AT&T mvno's (probably above Cricket too)..

Also probably includes tethering

My latest bill ended on 1/26. My deal ends on 1/31. Is the next billing cycle (which will go til 2/26) going to be free or should I make the switch?

Most people are porting out by 1/31 in that case to be safe but it looks to me from a few reports that you could go to 2/26 with less certainty.

If you want you can call Retentions/Account Services at 844-382-3317 and see what they say (they are in charge of any extension issues - I would not bother with Chat who just guess).

Yea i was in the same boat. My deal ended on the 31st with bill due on the 28th. I ported out on the 27th to Tello.
Went through same day. I called sprint, not the retention number, and asked about the last bill and the guy had no clue.

So if I call the retention number will they be able to tell me the last bill amount and cancel everything?
I can still log into the website, which I didn't think would be possible. I assumed porting out would
cancel everything.

Porting out will cancel everything all on its own so that is not an issue. It is normal for the online account to remain accessible online after that for months actually so that you can settle any left over amounts, view bills, etc.

But yes you can call Retentions at 844-382-3317 and they can confirm everything if you like.

Online account will remain active for few months so you can still see your final bill and any amount due if you had any -- it also keeps your payment method saved for auto pay

They don't bother generating final bill quickly -- it'll be under your regular monthly timeline

Once you pay your final bill then following month will generate another bill showing you a zero balance -- save the bill PDFs for your records

If we did not port out until a few days after 1/31, i assume we would get a prorated refund for the days we paid in advance, right? I seem to remember verizon and tbmobile did that for me when I left. Or is sprint different? And if that is the case, would it not just be a few dollars on the hook to see if you have an additional month or two of free unlimited? Or am i missing some big gotcha?

No it does not work like that at Sprint. Sprint doesn't pro-rate in general except as a special adjustment which they may be willing to make in some cases.

We do not have a full statement of general policy to interpret and Sprint does not provide one.
Short of that, people have found in practice that if you port out by the end date specified for the free plan, there Is no charge.
The few people who have ported out later than that, but before their next plan period end date have also not been charged but there are not enough of them to say this is sure. That is as far as we know but nobody that we have heard from has been prorated . People who held long enough have eventually been charged full months.

Ah ok thanks. I called that retentions dept # you posted, twice actually. They did confirm proration but both reps were very confused sounding and had never heard of the "free one year plan" lol. The best they could offer was 2 gig a month for $40. The first person I spoke to said she had not been doing this very long and did not know much. It seems like they would put their best and brightest in the retentions dept! When I told them i was moving to Tello, they both sounded surprised by the price and what you got per month.

But they did both confirm that bills would be prorated, even though the 2nd rep initially said it did not, but I told her the 1st rep said it would, and she put me on hold forever and came back and said it was. At least they were both friendly!

Oh that is disappointing but interesting to hear!

I agree that there are multiple mentions on Sprint forums of final periods being pro-rated in other contexts. However, pro-rating does not appear to be applied to the free plan in particular in the circumstance of holding on through a billing period that crosses the supposed free period end-date, at least from the limited number of posts here. Instead, it appears these people are simply charged nothing.

Once the plan transitions to fully paid mode, perhaps you could get them to pro-rate if you specifically requested it and convinced them to do an immediate cancel instead of waiting for the normal end of period effective date of a cancellation. (In fact in that case I would try for a 100% 30-day satisfaction guarantee refund).

But pro-rating (or indeed any charging) does not appear to happen in the case that people here are normally asking about here of crossover from free status in the middle of the billing period.

Wow, i just switched to Tello this am and was that painless! It was ported within like 10 minutes. I remember previous ports with other carriers was a several day long process.

To anyone who currently has tello, do you know how to make it work with YOUMAIL? or do you have any other 3rd party visual voicemail that you use with it that you like? I cannot find tello in their list. TIA!
