Unlocked Galaxy S8+ - $524.99 w/ ANY smartphone trade-in
Unlocked Galaxy S8 - $424.99 w/ ANY smartphone trade-in

Following information should be verified with Samsung rep if you are concerned:

- Limited time offer. Any smartphone running iOS or Android Operating System and worth at least $20 is eligible for Trade-In. (From Samsung website.)
- Discover 10% cashback is NOT eligible.
- Trade in must be factory reset.
- Will work with any phone provider's service. (Example: Verizon/AT&T/Sprint)
- Rep told me my iPhone 4s 16GB is eligible for this deal.

If your Trade-In Device is not in good condition as described in Section 5 below, then Samsung will value it at twenty five dollars ($25.00) and charge you the Trade-In Value that was applied to the purchase of your new Galaxy S8 or S8+ smartphone minus the twenty-five dollar ($25.00) value ("Device Condition Charge").

Section 5:
Samsung will determine, in its sole judgment, whether your Trade-In Device is in good condition. A Trade-In Device is in "good condition" if it:
· Powers on and holds a charge;
· Has a functioning display;
· Has no breaks or cracks or other visible defects that go beyond normal wear and tear;
· Is not on a black list of any kind; AND
· Has Reactivation Lock, Google FRP, or any other anti-theft protection software disabled.

If device is not in "good condition", Samsung will not send back your phone that you traded in.

Answers Received From Samsung Reps:
Pikapichu, "Just got off the phone with a rep. Basically told me that they won't know the value for sure until it's received by that particular department. If it's valued less than $20, we get get charged the rebate, minus $25. So we get $25 off instead of $200. He hinted though, that as long as it satisfies the other requirements, it should qualify for the $200. I would take that bit with a grain of salt though as he doesn't seem to have any more info than we do at the moment. For what its worth, the rep I spoke with sounded like he was here in the US, as opposed to India. I figure that's good since they'd have the most up-to-date info with regards to this promo.

The number I called was 1-800-SAMSUNG in case anyone else wants to give it a go."

garymeter48, "I just called the Samsung Phone Promotions number. The guy was familiar with the promotion. He told me it only needs to be a smartphone in 'good condition'. I told him I had a Cricket Samsung J3 (Amp Prime 2016) and he said that was fine. I told him it was still locked to Cricket and he said that was not a problem.He also confirmed that it can take a while before you receive an order confirmation email."

If you don't get your order confirmation, which it seems some people have not, contact Samsung customer support: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

How to escalate a rejected trade-in
Many valid trade-ins were rejected. Calling samsung customer support has been frustrating and ineffective. The most effective way to escalate this is to e-mail [email protected] and [email protected]. Most are reporting success. Good luck!

FAQ regarding this trade-in offer:
http://www.samsung.com/us/trade-i...questions/

Samsung Trade-In Program Frequently-Asked Questions- UDPATE 7/14/2017- Samsung is rejecting many trade ins. Overall the pattern seems to be higher rejection of Apple devices, and almost universal success with cheap/new Walmart phone trade ins. "Wear and tear" is frequently the reason for rejection. Samsung is not being responsive to complaints regarding rejection, currently the only option available is to call customer service and ask for escalation of your trade in rejection, and ask for ticket number, Samsung then replies 1-2 weeks for follow up, and they don't send email confirmation of tickete. Future trade in DEAL HUNTERS BE WARNED- send them a cheap/new phone, not your old Apple or slightly used phone

Answers to questions that have been asked and answered many, many times:

**Will my [insert phone brand/model] be accepted for a trade-in? No one knows if your specific phone will be accepted. PLEASE STOP POSTING! For starters, it must have Android or Apple IOS. Phones with Windows OS, Blackberry OS or Palm OS are not eligible for this promotion.

**How much is my phone worth? Will I get $200 as long as it is Android or IOS? Who the fark knows! Samsung has been giving conflicting information. They have told some people phones are worth "up to $200" and the final value will be determined by a technician. They have told others that they will get the full trade-in value also long as the Android or IOS phone is in good working order, normal wear and tear, no cracks or water damage, not blacklisted, etc. The general consensus is that Samsung will probably accept any phone for the full value if these conditions are met <----------- NOT TRUE 7/14/2017

**The keyboard [or wifi or speaker or whatever] is not working. Will Samsung accept my phone? Probably not, don't send it.

**OMG! I received my phone but there was no shipping label!!! What am I going to do? Wait for a follow-up email from Samsung. For details, scroll down in this wiki to "Shipping instruction e-mail content." Some buyers have been able to access the shipping label on their Samsung order page."

Interested in trading in your old smartphone for a new Galaxy S8 or S8+? This page answers key questions.

General Information
What is the Samsung Trade-In Program?
The Samsung Trade-In Program allows customers purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ to trade in an eligible device and receive an instant trade-in credit toward the purchase of their new Galaxy Smartphone. Click here for the Samsung Trade-In Program terms and conditions.
What devices can I trade in? How much will I get for it?
Any smartphone running iOS or Android operating system is eligible for Trade-in.
Eligibility and Trade-in value are product and carrier specific and may vary depending on the time of purchase. Additionally, if you are purchasing an unlocked device, trade-in values will vary. Please refer to our website for the most up to date information on eligible devices and Trade-in value.
The device I'm trading in is the one I currently use. Can I still trade it in?
Yes! When you complete your order, Samsung will ship you your new Galaxy S8 or S8+, so that you can activate it and transfer your data, contacts, etc. before you ship your current device back to us. You can transfer your information from the old device to your new one using Samsung Cloud, a data cable, or any of the other methods described in the documentation that accompanies your new device. Please note that you will need to ship the device being traded in back to us within 15 days of the date on which you receive your new device, or your credit card will be charged for the amount we gave to you as a trade-in credit toward your new Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+.
The device I'm trading in is one that I bought using an equal payment or other financing plan, and I still have payments left on it. Can I still trade it in?
Yes – however, please note that all remaining payments on the device you're trading in are your responsibility. You may also be subject to additional fees. Check with your current carrier for details.
What condition does my device have to be in in order for me to trade it in?
In order to trade in your device, it must meet the following conditions:
· It cannot be on a black list of any kind;
· It must be able to be powered on;
· It can only be in a condition consistent with normal wear and tear;
· It cannot have a cracked screen; and;
· It cannot have any water damage of any kind
What if Samsung determines that my device does not meet the minimum conditions?
We will evaluate your device when we receive it, and if it does not meet the conditions described above, we will value it at $25 and charge you the difference between $25 and the amount of the trade in value that was applied to the purchase of your new Galaxy Smartphone. If you do not send Samsung your device within 15 days of receiving your new device, Samsung will charge you the full amount of the trade-in value that was applied to your purchase. Please note that your old device cannot be returned to you.

Trading in Your Device
When I ship back to Samsung the device I'm trading in, should I send the charger, case or other accessories with the device?
No – you should only ship the device back to Samsung, and if you no longer need them, discard the other accessories in accordance with your local trash and recycling regulations. No trade in value is offered on anything other than the device, and if you do ship accessories back with the device, those accessories will not be returned.
How do I remove all of the personal information on my device before I trade it in?
Refer to the user manual or support page on Samsung's website for how to do a factory reset on your current device, prior to shipping it back to Samsung. In addition, make sure that you remove all passwords, locks, SIM cards and memory cards before sending the device to Samsung. If these items are sent with your device, they will not be returned. Please note that Samsung assumes no responsibility for any personal information you leave on your device when you ship it back to Samsung as a trade in.
What happens to my device once I send it back to Samsung?
You will receive an email from Samsung when your device has been received and evaluated; as long as the device meets the criteria described above, you don't need to do anything else.
What if I lost or threw out the shipping label that was sent to me for my trade in?
If you have lost or discarded the shipping label, please log into your Samsung account and reprint the label from your my orders page. If you require additional assistance please contact us at 855-726-8721.
What if I decide that I want my old device back after I send it to Samsung?
When you ship your old device to us, you are transferring ownership of it to Samsung and it cannot be returned to you for any reason.
What if I change my mind about the trade-in before I ship it to Samsung?
If you decide after you make your purchase that you don't want to trade in your old device, you don't need to do anything. Approximately 15 days after the date on which you receive your new Galaxy smartphone, Samsung will charge you for the amount of the trade-in value that was applied to your order, using the same payment method that you used when you completed your initial order with us. If you do not have sufficient credit available on the credit card or other account you used when you placed your order, Samsung will contact you and you must provide an alternative method.
I got an email saying that my device doesn't meet the trade-in requirements; what do I do?
If we receive the device you're trading in and it does not meet the conditions described above, we will value it at $25 and charge you the trade–in value that was applied to the purchase of your new Galaxy Smartphone minus $25. If you do not return the device within 15 days of receiving your new device, Samsung will charge you the full trade-in value that was applied to the purchase of your new Galaxy Smartphone. Please note that your old device cannot be returned to you.
Can I return my new device if I decide to do that?
We're sure you'll love your new Galaxy Smartphone but, just in case, our normal return policy applies.
What if I have other questions?
We're here to help!! Please call us at 855-726-8721, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM EST, seven days a week, and we'll be happy to assist you with any additional questions you may have.

Model number for the S8+ is SM-G955U
Model number for the S8 is SM-G950U

Heads up.

Unlocked version have major problem with software update. In case of S7 unlocked version, It did not get monthly security and other update, but received quarterly update. Other major update will always be after all major carrier receives update.
This is major problem if you are expecting fast software update.

^^ This was true in the past, but seems to be fixed now. There was just an update a couple weeks ago, and the unlocked S8 models got it a few days after TMobile/Sprint, and before Verizon/AT&T models.

*Personal Opinion
Samsung makes very capable phone with great design. However, One of the major downside of it not having its own OS system is update.Unlike Google or Apple who gets software update as soon as they are released, All this relationship among google, carrier, and Samsung delays software update heavily. Samsung and Carrier will try their best for maybe 1st year of release. But, YOU will not get update promptly once you are past honeymoon period. It is very often the case your update will be delayed more than 8 months. This is very long time to wait and it is possible Google devices is getting newer version of android when Samsung did not get update for past version.

Please refer to this article about difference between unlocked and carrier version

https://www.androidcentral.com/ga...vs-carrier

Also be aware of LagWiz (aka, TouchWiz). Even with powerful Qualcomm 835 SoC, YouTube reviewers saying TouchWiz is so bloated, it still lags:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3...H45M&t=400

solomonshv: in regard to the trade in, samsung is desperate for sales. they will accept anything you send them, as long as it powers on and in good physical shape. there was a similar promo for the GS6 around 2 years back. i sent in a palm treo 680 i found laying around in a bin, which at that point had to have been 10 years old. they took it, i got my discount.

Wouldn't worry too much about trade-in as long as you meet basic requirements NOT TRUE 7/14/2017, multiple trade ins rejected by Samsung:
drlj78: Article confirming desperation for sales:
TLDR This is allowing Samsung to cut price without cutting price from retail.https://www.forbes.com/sites/grea...discounts/

philipj: If anyone purchasing the unlocked version wishes to change the software to the carrier-branded software, the instructions are here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...0-t3609487
This would be if a carrier-branded version offers specific functionality that the unlocked version does not (for example, AT&T wifi calling does not work on the unlocked version).

OMG the same questions over and over again.
It's probably after $200 trade-in. $625-$200 for S8 is $425. Send them a clunker worth $30 you end up with an S8 for $455+tax.
More like entitlement aggravates laziness. It's basically lazy illiterate folks who can't spend the small extra effort to read. Same questions over and over and over again. This thread would be half the size without all these half-assed questions.

$300. So in your case, it'll be an additional $100 off the price from the OP.

S8 unlocked is $625. Send them a $30 phone, get $200 credit making it $425+tax + $30. Even with 10.1% tax around here, it's still $497.
