Yes, the 128GB would be fine for an OS, but so would an SSD. You wont have much extra space for applications. MS Office certainly doesnt need an NVMe drive. Usually, the performance gain from this type of drive is better utilized for more demanding tasks that are time sensitive. Gaming is the first thing that comes to mind where you want something loaded 1 second quicker than everyone else. Booting a computer and the difference from 4 to 4.5 seconds isn't that significant unless you are frequently rebooting.

When buying any type of storage, you should always buy bigger. I have never heard someone say I bought a 512GB SSD but damn, I wish I only got a 128GB. How many times have we all heard... Damn, I only bought a 128GB drive but I wish I got a 512GB? Buy the largest you can afford... and usually, the larger the drive, the better the performance.

This is the drive that comes in the newest Alienware laptops. Make sure you use the OCZ driver, else you will see awful 4k performance.

Although not bad, the Samsung EVO would be a better deal if you are near a Fry's -

Look at the picture. It's M.2 form factor installed in a PCIe x4 adapter. This is how OCZ sells it so that's how AT tested it I guess. I think it's smart OCZ sells it like it to target people without an m.2 NVMe slot. AT does say it's $20 more with the adpater. Performace in the adapter in a PCIe x4 slot should be the same as in an m.2 NVMe slot.

Would this be big enough for an OS-only drive (Win 10 pro) on a desktop. I mean, I know it IS technically big enough, but do people consider this enough space these days or should I jump up to the 250 just to be on the safe side?

MyDigitalDiscount does change tax, but only in NY..

Basically, the Samsung does up to 3200MBps/1500MBps Read/Write & this Toshiba does 2600MBps/1150MBps Read/Write.

The Toshiba is still a good drive and wouldn't hesitate from picking one up, but since the EVO is only $4 more and has better performance, that would be the better way to go for an enthusiast.
