Even though I think I could use that from time to time. If the tornado that came w/in a 1/4 mile of my home, had actually taken it last year. Yes, there would be loss of important things. But, the home would of been professionally re-built. I would be in a home that would require no more work, it would be finished, it would have real heat, real a/c, complete electricity.
But, I would have absolutely no trees around me. That would be the devastating thing. It has taken 30 years for the pine trees to grow to where they are now. The Ash and Elm have already been wiped out. I fear some day the Oaks will be next with the Oakwilt that is in other states. Yes, the tornado did take out plenty of trees too, even though it wasn't a direct hit.
To actually sit down and figure out what everything in the home costs, a daunting task. I worked in a kitchen store. From time to time, people would come in with lists trying to re-build their kitchen after a fire. They had difficulty coming up with original prices. I tried to once use Quicken software to start a database of everything. But, the program had issues. So, I never completed it.
So, the best thing I can advise, quickest and easiest. Video camera, tape everything in the home, get serial/model numbers of thing. Store the tape in locations off site.
Well, I must get to my other computer. I finally got it going after months of it sitting there doing nothing. From time to time I would deal with it try to get it going. Turns out, a corrupt memory chip. It happens to be the that the brunt of the dust from the fans. So, I can finally back up my pictures, music and print more coupons. So, I can go shopping at Kroger one more time before the week is out!
