Tom Petty [rollingstone.com], the dynamic and iconoclastic frontman who led the band the Heartbreakers, died Monday. He was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest at his Malibu home Sunday night, according to TMZ [tmz.com], and rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. EMTs were able to find a pulse when they found him, but TMZ reported that the hospital found no brain activity when he arrived. A decision was made to pull life support. CBS confirmed Petty's death [cbsnews.com]. He was 66.
"It's shocking, crushing news," Petty's friend and Traveling Wilburys bandmate Bob Dylan tells Rolling Stone in a statement. "I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I'll never forget him."
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recently completed a summer tour last Monday with three nights at the Hollywood Bowl. The trek marked the band's 40th anniversary and found him playing rarely played deep cuts like their first album's opener, "Rockin' Around (With You)," and a selection of Wildflowers cuts. It was intended to be his "last trip around the country." He told Rolling Stone [rollingstone.com], though, that it wasn't his intention to quit playing. "I need something to do, or I tend to be a nuisance around the house," he said.

Not anymore.
Um...I mean, RIP Tom Petty.
RIP Tom Petty
I guess this means if the talk of a King Of The Hill reboot was gaining steam both Lucky AND Luann's characters will be written out now.

Allegedly he began his heroin addiction in his 50's after using crack when he was younger. So the whole substance abuse and heart failure thing may have killed him. But he was too young to die.

Kind of a let down. I bet half of Hollywood and the music industry are hiding secretes like that.

The whole entertainment industry is farked up. I'm still trying to get past Thomas Gibson being catphished because he was lonely. But a lot of them are. It's not like Eminem can go out to dinner and a movie or date like a normal person. (He built Kim a house near his and will probably never date or marry again.) A lot of their marriages in Hollywood are on contract. You date or marry someone and stay for 5 years. Meanwhile they aren't a couple at all.
Easy to turn to drugs or alcohol if you're lonely and/or not working often.

They had known each other for many years, back when they were both married to other people. She actually helped him to get off heroin, which he had unsuccessfully tried to hide from her. So she kept him going at a time when he could have gone the other way really fast.
