Monoprice Maker Select 3D v2 Printer Expired

Can't really compare the A8 to this.
This is full metal construction, almost fully assembled and comes with full 1 year of great support. Along with many other things. Would def recommend this over the A8.

A8 is not a plug and play and does not come with support . . .

If you are new to 3d printing the Select is a better deal for your sanity.

Personally, I wouldn't buy into a Kickstarter like this. They are notorious for under delivering. On that note, both these printers aren't enough of a step forward to justify the price and 10 months you have to wait to get it delivered. Mind you, I haven't inspected these printers personally, but I can tell this from the campaign website.




This is misleading. Print speed and total print time are completely separate of each other. Most of the time you see "3,000 mm/s!" is just in the movement from one extrusion point to another. Their explanation for getting this speed is blurry at best, they give you the standard "firmware updates" which doesn't explain if the hardware is capable of producing consistent prints at high speeds over a long period of time. On top of that, I call bullshit on a printer that claims 30% faster speeds with fans that appear to blow air everywhere including the hot end. That's a recipe for jammed print heads and bad prints. You ever wonder why all these companies print out the same demos? Because they are tuned and tested to be the easiest prints for a printer. No huge travel distance, no retraction tweaking needed, no bridges to worry about. Print a real 9 hour model on both and I bet that 30% increase in speed drops to about 10%


This can be achieved by putting quieter fans in and/or quieter steppers. Most likely they just dropped the amperage of the stepper motors to reduce the movement noise. This could go either way. If they put more expensive parts in, it's a good thing. If they kept the same cheaper parts and just lowered the power, it's no bueno.


This might be the dumbest feature on this list. You transmit about 3 Megabytes on a benchy model. If you're printer is being run from your slicer on your PC, the wifi strength is the least of your worries when it comes to a failed print. They should download the code to an SD card on the unit itself for the best print.


My Compaq Presario from 1992 has an LED that told me when the computer was on, thinking or sleeping.
