This deal is the best price for the 1800x. If you combine it with the recent Groupon deal, you're getting a steal on a top tier processor. Picked one up for my new build.
Depends on how much you love intel's raping rod and if you want to upgrade later in 2019/2020 without another board (which you know intel will require just next year LOL).

so what's the benefit of getting 1800x over 1700? aren't they basically the same thing?
They're binned better, so a little higher OC. So more like 4-4.1 instead of 3.8-3.9, but it's all silicon lottery of course.

If you can wait and if the build is geared towards gaming then get 8600k. But you might have to wait a month or so before the prices come down to retail or below.
And that's assuming he's going to use a high end card. Intel has the dummies fooled with midrange cards that will never be capped. They NEED 7700K at 5ghz to play CS GO at 300 FPS!!11!!!! even though they get 100 with their card lolz
Even then it's not worth giving intel a dime. Performance disparity is pretty much down to clocks, now (thanks fast ram and devs actually doing some optimization).
