This just dropped in price $14. Just dropped again by $2 to $73.99

Works with Black Friday 20% coupon that was obtained when spending $50 on Black Friday and thus is YMMV.
(And yes, obviously cheaper if you got 10% discount on gift cards...)

Nice, but so difficult to not justify spending that $76 toward a second Switch that would come with its own dock effectively making the second unit only $224.

it makse sense to just by a second swtich when you by the first. you get extra joycons extra dock, and and extra cnosole if something happened to one, not to mention improved co-op if you brought two with you one the fly, if you were trying to kill time somewhere... i'll be buying a second one before i buyt he dock alone, amaoznz has theirh warehouse ones at roughly 240, if they can ever figur eout the issue with theire stock not letting you check out

I use the dock to play my switch on a different tv easily. I don't need another console so would rather pay $55 than $300. I'd imagine others have no use for a second console as well.

Same here - it's still money saved and if you don't have a use for a second system you can spent the money elsewhere. I got a second dock and spent the "savings" on a PS4 Smilie

Too many accessories for me to jump on board.........Nintendo sure does nickel and dime their consoles.

I bought both a second Wii and a second WiiU. Once they started putting the games and extra controllers
into the bundles, the extra system was $100. I don't think I will let the Switch sucker punch me a third time.

Can someone explain why you'd need a second dock? Is it just so you can move the switch to different TVs in the house since the switch comes with just one in the box?

I know the Nyko one is bricking systems so I'd stay away from that one. Insignia just released one but there aren't enough reviews yet to know if it's solid. I'm not confident enough in them yet to risk it.

In fairness, the Wii U came out in 2012 and was backwards compatible with ALL Wii games and accessories . . . Plus the online is free. The system was an admitted failure.

Now they take a page from Sony and Microsoft and force accessories and no backwards compatibility and now they have their most successful console maybe ever, at least at the start of it's life.

Why shouldn't they jump in if seemingly that is what consumers want? Apple is king and they have tons of accessories and drop new phones every year with minimal gains.

Either way you don't even need those Switch accessories if you don't want them. Only thing you really need is a screen protector and a carrying case . . . And if you are a slickdealer you can get both of those for under $10. Obviously if more than 2 people are playing you need extra controllers but at least you have a two player option out the box.

Extra dock, grips, chargers, etc are all QOL upgrades and aren't necessary.

Yep, it is for usage on another TV. I have a friend who is divorced and their son has a dock at his place and one at the moms place and it works wells for them instead of unhooking the dock everytime.

Also have a friend that bought one for his car audio/video setup.

Definitely not mandatory, and personally I would just buy a second switch bundle . . . But if that is truly not something that is wanted then obviously saving that extra $225 makes sense.

The only reason to buy one is if you want to easily connect your Switch to two televisions without moving any cables, docks, etc. The Switch comes with one and technically you could just have a spare HDMI and USB-C cable ready at the second television and then just transfer the dock itself as needed. This second dock includes both HDMI and power cables. If you are considering buying a second Switch then you wouldn't need the standalone dock.

Personally I own a Switch (that as a Dad I bought for myself and I allow the kids to play it from time to time) Grin . For Christmas this year we are adding a second Switch to our home so we will have two docks for both of our televisions making it easy to swap between which console is on which TV. Obviously this is cost prohibitive to some and or you may only need one Switch console in your home (aka one gamer). Local LAN and multiplayer over WiFi anywhere are fun options in games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Rayman Legends, Minecraft and more.

Just get the Insignia dock from Best Buy. It's $40 (was on sale for $35 last week) and it does the job. It's built like a tank and, imo, it's the best looking of the third party docks.

As far as the Nyko killing Switch story, don't buy into it. It's another case of Kotaku pulling stories from reddit posts. Could someone's switch have died plugging it into the Nyko dock? Or course, but it's an isolated incident or else Nyko would have pulled the dock. They've already committed themselves to replacing any Switch damaged by the use of the dock.

You want something like this, can probably find a cheaper brand but this one has a nice chart of how to hook something like this up on the product page.
