Google Play Music on Pixel XL

So I am trying to listen to my songs from my computer on my Pixel XL that I got from Cyber Monday. The only app that would allow me to listen to them is the Google Play Music. So if I were to add music onto Google Play Music, would it use data when I listen to the music on my phone? Any other recommendations? I have no idea what I'm doing with this phone.
