Laundry Detergent: Pacs/Pouches vs. Liquid?

Title says it all, which is better, those small pacs/pouches or the liquids?

The pacs/purches are just concentrated liquid, aren't they? I thought they were simply more convenient and less messy. My wife prefers powder detergent.

We prefer the liquid, and buy the pacs when we travel. Usually we will buy a big case of them if we travel and it seems to last us forever haha.

I did some research on it about a year ago. Basically the pacs are the same as the liquid. However, there are 2 advantages.

1) The pacs usually have 1 or 2 smaller sections that have different liquids, things that normally wouldn't be able to mix with normal liquid detergent. So it allows them to make special formulas.

2) They are extremely convenient. When I used the liquid stuff, you have to measure it, close the lid tight, sometimes stuff spills out and it's a sticky mess. With the pacs you just throw 1, 2, or 3 in and load. No mess, no fuss, no measuring. It's awesome. Considering you do laundry weekly, it's 1 less annoyance in life.

My impression from doing some quick math in the store aisle was the pacs were significantly more expensive than the liquid, so I've just stuck with the latter.

The main thing is the pacs are more expensive than the liquid laundry soap and if you need to do a half load or just a few items on delicate cycle then you're winding up wasting even more money. Plus the pacs are messy when one breaks in the container.

Perhaps you should stop doing the laundry while drunk? I've never had that problem of the liquid spilling.

I do too, it's harder to lean over the open door of the dishwasher holding a big box of powder and get all of the powder in the little tray.

I find the pacs are neater than pouring liquid into the dispenser. The liquid always gums up and then I have to pull everything apart to clean it. The pacs travel well and the extra cost is negligible to me. I also like having the stain fighter built into the pac. If, like Zoe said, you do small loads it might be an issue, but I never do half loads, so I don't have that problem.

Get used to the packs as the government thinks we are too dumb to know how much soap to use,( like they did with light bulbs toilets and washing machines}

I bought a few packs for an elderly because she said it's much easier to carry and throw those small packs than lift a heavier bottle/box of detergent and pour it into the machine.
