Would you allow your children to go on a slumber party?

Hi guys! Given the current situation of our society nowadays, would you still allow your children go to slumber parties? I have experienced it before and of course, as a grown-up teenager, it was all fun. But nowadays.... I have some reservations about it. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't know...the kid kind of turned into a bit of a peeping tom as he got older. Sometimes weirdness runs in families.

Sorry there was no sister there, she was a a teenager by then. I think I remember the dad picking the kid's scab that night. A sight like that kind of sticks in your brain forever.

For me it would depend on the environment and how well I knew the parents. So maybe... maybe not.

When I was younger, I had one friend who's father never let her spend the night. As I get older, I see he may have been trying to prevent anyone from molesting his child, but we were so close with the family, he shouldn't have been concerned. But I also understand it's the people your kids know you need to worry about more than strangers. Not to mention there could be accessible loaded weapons or viscous pets in the house, it's hard to know what to do as a parent. You need to be vigilant, but then you can be seen a as a helicopter parent.

Exactly. I find it comical (perhaps ppl just trying to be facetious) that some here are making it out like it's a bad thing for parents to be hesitant about their kids sleeping over someone else's home who's not a relative. There are WAY too many stories out there about kids being abused/molested by family friends, family even, and the playmate's family member.

To be honest, I have a few friends and family who were molested/raped at childhood by family friends or a family member. It's no laughing matter. And, in many of these cases, the family sides with the adult and make it out like the child seduced the adult!

In the end, it's up to the parent....there's no right or wrong answer.

You're right. We hardly know our neighbors anymore. People used to sit on their front porch, talk to neighbors across the fence, and actually look each other in the eye. Now, we text, email, or use one of a number of other messaging apps. Sad.

​i couldn't agree more. We should let our kids experience the world on their own. Most o the people blaming the government have one thing in common, they can not make their own decisions so after being released from their parents captivity, they expect the government to act as their parents.

IKR?! When I was a kid I knew everyone in the neighborhood. I would walk or ride my bike for blocks to go visit friends. I miss those days.

That's still the way it is here, except the porch thing, because the neighbor's porch is a mile away, so that wouldn't make much sense. I know all my neighbors for miles, and know or know of most people in town. Crime is extremely rare, despite the fact it would take 20+ minutes for cops to get out here. Someone gets a flat tire/disabled vehicle, someone stops to help. I've been stuck on my property, neighbor sees me, they stop what they're doing and get their tractor over and pull me out. Someone gets sick, hospital, dies, or ~whatever, house is flooded with people, food is brought over, chores are done (no charge), things get situated and it continues until a plan is figured out. People wave from one vehicle to the other on the highway. The town 30 miles away is the same. I go into the bank maybe once or twice a year (income selling calves is once a year), they remember my name. All the stores, clerks chit chat. Etc., etc.
