New to security cameras:

I've shared a lot of what I have learned in the last year in the wikis here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99
and

And a tip of the hat from us all at Slickdeals to mat200 for all of the answers to questions and information you've been posting and are posting whenever a security camera deal comes up. Having someone on the board who is knowledgeable about a particular topic and willing to invest time helping/blessing others is great. Thank you.

Nice kit, cameras slightly different than the previous deal.

Cable iirc is CCA so recommend using a better quality solid copper cat5e/cat6 cable, ideally use bulk cable and cut to the lengths you need.

For more info on cabling please see the wiki here:

UPDATE: 12/31/2017 for those just looking at this deal

Both cameras have some very nice specs. If properly installed they should do well outdoor due to their IP67 rating and wide temp range.
Note the 2.1MP camera has a larger sensor than the 4.1MP camera - this may mean that it will out perform the 4.1MP camera in low light if the chip tech is the same.
Of course you will need to test this.

Camera 2.1MP - LV-PB912F4C
1/2.8" sensor
4mm,Angle of view: 83.6°
30fps(1920 × 1080)
Thus ID distance: LaView 2MP bullet camera 4mm lens 1080p at 83.6 degree: 13.16 feet { 126.28 sq feet covered }
Operating conditions -22°F ~ 140 °F(-30 °C ~ 60 °C ) humidity 95% or less (non-condensing)
Weather proof rating IP67

Camera 4.1MP - LV-PB3140WC
1/3 "sensor
4mm,Angle of view: 83.6°
20fps @(2688 × 1520)
Thus ID distance: LaView 4MP bullet camera 4mm lens 2688x1520 at 83.6 degree: 18.43 feet { xx sq feet covered }
-22°F ~ 140 °F(-30 °C ~ 60 °C ) humidity 95% or less (non-condensing)
Weather proof rating IP67

Wish this has 4x 4MP cameras instead of 2x 4MP and 2x 2MP.

Will keep waiting for prices to go down, thanks for the post.

Hi Mat,

Thanks for the tip. I am tempted to pickup this package just for the POE NVR and the 2 4mp cameras. The NVR alone is $300 at LaView and the 2 4mp cameras are also over $250. By chance, do you know if the NVR will work with the Dahua turret cameras? Thanks.

Hi nomoney4deals,

LaView uses Hikvision as their OEM, so while the Dahua OEM cameras will work up to the ONVIF specs (i.e. the basic interoperability ), the more advanced features ( those beyond the ONVIF spec ) will not be supported. ( Hik and dahua use different APIs )

SO, if you can you want to use Dahua OEM NVRs with Dahua OEM cameras, and Hikvision OEM NVRs with Hikvision OEM cameras to get the maximum compatibility.

Of course the other option is to use Blue Iris on a dedicated windows i5/i7 PC.

Similar, slightly different - otherwise more of less the same good deal.

Thanks. I guess in order to take advantage of all the features of the Dahua cameras, I probably want to get Lorex or OEM Dahua NVR. I had a turret on order and just ordered the TP-Link TL-SG1008P POE switch. Will most likely connect to my NAS for now. Will need to see how that goes before jumping into a full blown system. If I didn't have those items ordered, I will be all over this package.

Looks like the same cameras I got in the LaView Newgg BF deal; just that that particular deal came with 6 cameras (x4 2MP, x2 4MP)

Hi Acerbicorder

Officially the best option is a "surveillance" rated HDD - either WD purple or Seagate Skyhawk.

You can probably do fine with a NAS drive also.

Check out the last posts in this thread - when I notice HDD deals for security cameras I post them there...
