Because $60 for a 2TB HDD seems to be the price floor. Also, not everyone needs 4TB, so while it's cheaper per TB, if you're not using that extra 2TB, you're just spending more money for nothing.

You want to have the internal drive SSD anyway. The best money spent for any laptop. Keep this as external storage. SSD is like having a new laptop even if storage is smaller. Unless your LT has 2 storage locations, which is very rare these days.

Very true. SSDs should be the only drives on laptops.
Plus the drives in these externals are not designed for use in a laptop. It is likely a 5400rpm drive, which would be extremely slow.
