Eversavage: tear@down/ review Applause

In Nov 2017 I bought Dell Inspiron 15 i5570-5364SLV-PUS Laptop via Microsoft from a previous SD deal. Sharing my thoughts and my tear down on the laptop. The build should be similar.

Review:
The Keyboard is decent and better than most sub 500 price laptop.
Mouse pad is usable and not to sensitive.
My FHD has a touch screen and some text can be slightly burred at times but 95% of the time its not an issue.
The bezel on the sides measures at 1.8 cm, top 2.2cm and bottom are 2.7cm.
In my living room I have curtains and I still get a slight glare
Watch video in HD from youtube looks great
Audio from the speakers are ample for a laptop.
Battery life is decent but not great. I believe its a common issues on all electronics
Power button doubles as a finger scanner . Works amazing well to log into windows.
Back lit keyboard works but the led has only three modes "off , on , on with a tiny bit more light" needless to say the led is could have been brighter.

CD slot can be removed and the port can be used for hdd caddy.. picture of the hdd frame posted below

disclaimer :
My dell Inspiron 15 5000 series is an 8th gen Intel Core i5-8250U, with 1tb hdd and 8gig ram.. internal motherboard should be the similar
and over build should be similar .. I kept my 1tb hdd and added the m2 ssd plus another stick of ram. I'm not saying my laptop is better or worse or if this SD post is deal or not.. just offering my 2 cents and pic for those that are interested in working on their own Dell 15 5000 series laptop. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I'm guessing not IPS since it's not explicit about it.

This one's better from their same sale for $20 more. Has 8th gen i7 and an additional 128gb ssd. http://deals.dell.com/mpp/productdetail/um6

20 bucks for the i7, is worth it, but giving up 128gb of ssd for a 1tb of SLOW as hell hdd is definitely not a good trade.

much rather have a single 256gb ssd than 128gb + 1tb hhd @ 5400rpm

Maybe it's not a good trade for you, but for a frequent traveler who just needs storage space and doesn't like packing/constantly dealing with peripherals like an external HDD, getting a 1TB hard drive that doesn't even need to hold your OS and apps is pretty great. Windows and primary programs on SSD; storage on platter. I'd take that in a heartbeat over only having about 200gb by the time you factor in the Windows installation and the true drive size.

Been waiting for this.....I think we found this 5570 with exact specs in the outlet listed as "new" several times for $618 and refurb for $585, but was hoping for lower.

Wanted the i5 as we just need it for web, office, Quickbooks and would like the extra battery life over the i7.

Is it worth getting this one paying extra $ 50 and getting 2GB MX150?

Depends if you will put it to use. I didnt check the ports, but I know that Acer laptop is a budget cheap build with at best a decent screen. Still a great deal but I've been waiting for it to go on some sort of sale at least for a budget build.

Personally I would be looking at the i7 8th gen if you don't plan on gaming or a laptop like you posted, an i5 8th gen with a cheap GPU for some light-decent gaming.

Thanks for your reply. It's for my g/f. She does some light video editing from time to time but mostly web surfing and writing.

Yes, I've been watching the mentioned Acer to go on sale myself. Sadly, it's been stuck at that price for a while.

If she does any gaming, I would spend the extra $50 for a graphics card. Better to do that now than regret buying an underpowered laptop a year from now.

Probably but Dell should have a microcode BIOS update available on their website for patching spectre variant 2. I just flashed my ASUS BIOS for it the other day.

Spectre variant 1 and meltdown are already patched via Windows update.

Practically every computer and smartphone is the world is. There have been software patches rolled out to start fixing them by Intel / AMD / Apple etc but I don't think they will fully fix the hardware exploits
