Basically means you don't need the projector far away to project a large image, with short throw projectors, they can be a couple feet away from the wall and still produce a large image, ultra short throw has even shorter ranges.

If you have more money than 500 and this is not going into a living room then this option is not for you. I currently own this projector and even with a high contrast grey ALR screen the blacks are poor. I do love this projector but there are much better options if you do not need the brightness this thing puts out. The BENQ HT 2050 is pretty much what people consider the gold standard in budget sub $1k 1080p projectors for a home theater. I will soon be replacing my 2045 for something a little better either the 2150 (this was the replacement to the 2045) or the HC3700. The 3000 series Epson is the next step up in terms of level/tier of projector.

If it was me I would not consider the 2045. I would be waiting for the 2150 to go on sale as the contrast from research is about double that of the 2045. It will be hugely noticeable.

I have this. Got it for 569 at Best Buy on sale. I would be leery of a refurb but with warranty it's a good deal. It is not loud. It's noticeable, but only in quiet movie scenes. The picture is great, although I'm only 9' away and projecting to 100" so it's like sitting really close to a regular tv and it's not as crisp as a panel, but still fantastic, even with modest ambient light. I am very happy with the purchase.

From the specs, Optoma has less contrast (23,000 to 35,000) but more lumens (3,000 to 2,200). Some on Amazon said this PowerLite is loud unless on eco mode.

Would like to hear if anyone has actual experience with both, though that might be unlikely.
