Ready Player One

Ready Player One, based on the fantastic Ernest Cline book and directed by Steven Spielberg, is opening on March 29th. The book was one of the best I've read in a long time and this trailer for the movie looks fantastic!

I recommend you read the book or listen to the audio-book, not that you need to before seeing the movie but because it's such a great book it's a joy to read or listen to.

Saw the movie last night. The plot was basically the same as the book but many of the details () changed, but the changes were still really entertaining so I didn't mind so much. Overall it was really good. If you liked the book I think you will like the movie. The 80's nostalgia was glorious.

Loved the book. It is one I know I will read again because I'm sure there will be things I didn't catch the first time around that will pop out the next time through. I've thought of that but I'm just not sure the timing will work out to find time to go see it. I don't know how long movies like this stick around in the theater but if it is here for a while I may find some time to check it out.

I still haven't had a chance to see the movie but I'm now about a third of the way into Armada, another book by the same author, Ernest Cline. As much as I liked Ready Player One, so far I might be liking Armada even more. It's has kind of an Ender's Game feel to it with 80s nostalgia thrown in similar to Ready Player One. So far the 80s stuff isn't quite as prevalent and is more focused on things specific to the story line.

Looks like there is likely a movie in the works for this one as well.

Movie was alright. Definitely feels like the director or some of the cast have an idea how video games are supposed to work, but still don't fully grasp the idea. Also, felt like they relied more on the nostalgia factor to sell the movie rather than an amazing plot. As someone who owns a VR headset, this movie is a mixed bag.

Listened to the AudioBook a couple times. Great story, even though I'm not much of a gamer. And Wil Wheaton's narration is pretty farking awesome.

Off topic... I thought they were also going to make a movie out of Daniel Suarez's book, Daemon? Haven't heard a peep about it for a while. If you like technothrillers (that illuminate the darker side of some of our current technology), you'll like his books.

Finally saw it on a date night withe my wife last weekend. we both thoroughly enjoyed it, and I can't wait to get it in my home theater for more Easter egg hunting!
