I used to put Webroot on friend's/clients' computers a lot some years ago when Webroot was always FAR. Haven't used it much since then. Is it still good?
WebRoot won't give me straight answers:
"We mentioned also that we would provide clarity around the following statement, "We may combine information we collect from the internet or other companies with personal information you give to us and other information we collect about you." However it is our current understanding that this is aggregated data to offer an overarching view of the threat landscape so that we may provide better protection in real-time."
Our legal team provided the following: "Webroot requires certain permissions from your devices and collects information about you to provide you with our security services and to let you know about related Webroot security products you might be interested in."
Baloney, I say. My personal information being combined with that from third-parties doesn't protect my machines. Their User Agreement says that they do it for business purposes. It used to say they share personal user information with third-parties who might not exercise the same level of care... People called them on it, and they changed the language. Based on what I have seen, it appears to be paid spyware. And it doesn't work. It did an initial scan of my PC and found one dangerous file. It was an EXE that I HAD WRITTEN AND COMPILED! Yet a nearly identical file in the same directory wasn't flagged until I attempted to run it. Both are known safe.
They will not tell me (or anyone) why they don't participate in independent testing (AV Comparatives or AV-Test).
They will not answer this question (which I have been asking for about two weeks now): "Does uninstalling Webroot (by using Windows 10 Contol Panel) remove all traces of Webroot, including all processes, files, and services?"
