VPN encrypts data, proxy just allows you to use a different IP address.
I bought this last round and finally got around to using it. Not sure if this is standard but I have a consistent 800mbps connection without the vpn and when I connect to the vpn I get 50mbps. Wasn't expecting a 750mbps drop.
Does this work with the old Fire Stick ver 1? I tried the Free version, and it doesn't

Solid deal but at one point it was $29 for lifetime than $40 now it's $48.
Good deals abound for VPN, though it takes less time to find one here than hunt around. I'm paying $6/month for VPN and unlimited usenet (slickvpn/newsdemon) for over a year now. If they raised the price to $10 I wouldn't care, given the value and known reliability and quality of rarely-needed support.
Will this add on to an existing account? In other words, if you have 2 years left and you buy 3 years, will you now have 5 years, or does it override what you have and just take you to 3 years?

I got the three year subscription for $12. It seemed like one of the best deals out there. Been very happy so far. I had one configuration question (that turned out to be a mistake on my end) and customer support provided very useful help, not just restating what was in the installation guide. Took about 48 hours to get a reply, and two replies to clear my issue.
I've heard this is not one of the fastest VPNs. My internet is only about 3mbs without the VPN, and I get nearly that much with the VPN. They currently allow P2P on all their servers (except Japan and India) so customers in the US can use US based servers for P2P. They also have a bunch of additional security products which are included in the subscription. Ad blockers, proxy servers, browser anonymizers, etc. I haven't used any of those, so I can't comment on them.
