bought from the 'gps-radar-shop' Item was delivered fast and in great packaging, it was factory sealed and even called Uniden to ensure it would be covered under warranty and it is

If you live where K band is not used (e.g. California) or you drive on freeways only, get the R1. Otherwise, R3. GPS will help reduce noise from K band a lot.

You should read more about radars and radar detectors, how they work, what they can and can't do. Vortex radar website which is referenced a couple of times above is a good start. Once you learn about radar detector limitations, you can decide if this is something that could help you. This detector is best out there and is reasonably affordable.
