I have a 2DS, OG 3DS and a "NEW" 3DS XL. I strongly recommend going to your local pawn shops and checking out prices. I bought the 2DS from Gamestop originally for $70. Solid deal if you ask me. Realively easy to mod, turns into a great system. A month later I went into a pawn shop and saw they had a few new 3DS XL's in great shape for $100 each. I could only talk them down to $90. By far not just one of the best handheld systems to own, but one of the best ever. A week later I walked into a different pawn shop and they had a turquoise original 3DS for $80. I talked that down to easily to $50 with a game, which I probably could have had cheaper.

They're great systems, especially if you mod and get freEshop. The "NEW' models can play several much more powerful games and the SNES backlog of Eshop, which the original 3ds and 2ds can not.

The 3D mode is the best thing about the console. Here's why. In 2D mode the 3DS and 2DS only has a 400x240 screen. That's very, very low. To put this in perspective the iPhone 3GS released in 2009 has a 3.5" 480x320 screen in landscape mode. In 2D the aliasing can be pretty bad in some games. This is where 3D really comes in handy. Since each eye of the 3DS is set at an almost identical but slightly offset angle, the aliasing is different in each eye, meaning each eye doesn't see the same jagged edges. This makes it so that you're not able to really pay attantion to the jagged edges since the other eye isn't seeing the same thing. It's anti-aliasing for your 3DS. I think that's very worth it, especially with the bigger screen.

Not really, 3D details are not very good which is why I think not 3D is better

Its all preference, the 3D on the new XL is much better than the old one, it tracks the movement of your eyes to keep the 3D centered and looking good. However if you're like me, i have to keep it low or off, as it gives me a headache. All personal preference.

Some Pokemon games dont even support 3D at all. Others will only in certain circumstances. It's pretty gimmicky and not worth the premium over the 2DS, imo.

I have never used the 3D function beyond it's original debut. Hurts my eyes. 2D is just fine.

It depends on your eyes. I could never get the 3D to work clearly and not be blurry or double vision. Some people have really good experiences with it.

Also a thing to note, the 2DS XL is lighter and smaller. It's also not top heavy like the 3DS XL.

As someone who has always wanted but never had a DS (that worked at least), is it backwards compatible with old games?
