Psa: foes not transcode. Stream comes in form of bandwidth hogging mp2. So even with good wifi, you could get some skipping, pixelation, etc.

If anyone can comment on using other transcoders with this (plex, synology, etc) please share.
I use it with plex and am very happy with it. Plex on my qnap ts-231 cannot handle transcoding, so I also run plex on my desktop pc which easily keeps up with live tv and playback. The qnap does my dvr recording. For me the bigger limitation is only having two tuners.

SiliconDust recently released Connect Duo, same idea but two tuners, both have MSRP of $100. Not sure what performance difference there are between the two generations.

I am a little confused, and appreciate some clearing up. So is this a DVR that requires I have a computer ON at all times to run the recording software on my computer, or is it able to record independently... and I do NOT need my computer on at all times?

Ok thanks I will pass then.

I need a VERY CHEAP ass DVR, but would not want my computer on the whole time whatsoever! I need it to be the only device on it's own to record.

Cheers. Does plex handle live streaming to devices (tablet, fire stick, etc) when you use it?

I do the same thing with no issues though plex only seems to remove commercials some of the time.
