I use it with plex and am very happy with it. Plex on my qnap ts-231 cannot handle transcoding, so I also run plex on my desktop pc which easily keeps up with live tv and playback. The qnap does my dvr recording. For me the bigger limitation is only having two tuners.
Computer or NAS device on to record.
Ok thanks I will pass then.
I need a VERY CHEAP ass DVR, but would not want my computer on the whole time whatsoever! I need it to be the only device on it's own to record.

Cheers. Does plex handle live streaming to devices (tablet, fire stick, etc) when you use it?

Check out the channelmaster stream+
I do the same thing with no issues though plex only seems to remove commercials some of the time.
