Thoughts on having this as secondary drive on gaming laptop to install games on? Will performance suffer even though OS is on primary SSD? Thanks.
Your OS will run fine, but this is a pretty slow HDD to be running games off of, your load times will be slow. 7200 RPM or a Solid State/Hard Drive hybrid (SSHD) like the Firecuda series would be recommended.
We actually have a line of drives much more suited to NVR use, the SkyHawk & SkyHawk AI[seagate.com]. They are engineered specifically for surveillance implements like DVR, NVR, and CCTV, if you think of it as a read-to-write ratio, standard laptop & desktop drives like the BarraCuda are meant for more-or-less balanced workload ratios, where the SkyHawk prioritizes writing large blocks of highly-detailed video as it comes in so it can preserve image quality and reduce dropped frames, so the ideal scenario for NVR drives is something that writes roughly 90% of the time and reads (playback) the other 10%, which is exactly what the SkyHawk firmware (dubbed ImagePerfect[seagate.com]) does.
Regardless of which route you decide to go in the end, thank you for considering Seagate!
7mm and 2TB. Why aren't there 9.5mm drives greater than 2TB?
Common question. Simple answer: density. You can only pack so much data on the medium, based on the technology used. The drive manufacturers keep coming up with better tech to pack more data in a smaller space.
With the developments in SSD tech, they may not be working so hard to increase data density on standard HDs.

What is the limit of drives I can purchase?
Edit: Nevermind...I thought these were Firecudas...
I got the 2tb firecuda for this price a while ago on sale at newegg, if you can wait that might be a better way to go

Why is this deal being voted up, what am I missing?
You can get a 4TB 7,200 rpm Seagate Barracuda for about $100 without a sale, is the 3.5" vs 2.5" really making the price that much higher?
What's the difference, is the firecuda an SSHD?
Yes it is.
