Agreed. Especially since one of the big selling points for the new pixel 2 is the 2-year warranty
Also, every single nexus/pixel phone in recent history has suffered from widespread issues that only popped up with time (e.g. nexus 5 power button bootloops, nexus 6 battery throttle, nexus 5x cpu bootloops, neuxs 6p cpu bootloops, nexus 6p + pixel battery early shutdown). I've owned almost all of those, and have consequently RMA'd almost every single one of those with Google (the 6P twice!). Google-store support is amazing, but the 90-day warranty is really kind of a deal-breaker with that track record, IMHO.
$550 will buy you a brand new oneplus w/ warranty, or TWO brand new moto G5 plus's, or a brand new Galaxy S8's w/ warranty were around the $600 mark (and cheaper with BOGO) around christmas, etc.
Don't these still have what's left on the original warranty?
Even if they did (unlikely) they're Verizon model, which means your support has to be done through Verizon (Google will only handle models purchased directly on the Google store, not through a 3rd party). So good luck with that one. My Nexus 6 was purchased through Amazon and Google wouldn't touch it since it's not in their DB as being purchased via Google.
