Red Devil Goldens were down to $288 toward the end of the open box sale and had either a 10 or 20% discount on top of that. (Don't remember off hand) That would have been the one to pickup. This isn't a bad price though.
The 1060 performance is slightly ahead in most titles. We should see the 1060 6gb at or below this price as the bottom continues to fall out, and Nvidia starts selling cutdown gp104's in the 1060 package (so as to not interfere with the release of the 1180 and subsequent release of the 1170). My opinion is that AMD gpus typically age better with updates. But the 1060 in most instances runs a bit cooler and with a little less energy. This can of course be overcome with undervolting/tweaking this 580, but I'm not sure how much tinkering you were interested in. edit-- also, as mentioned: how much do you have in your budget for a monitor? gsync (Nvidia compatible) costs about 70-100 dollars more than a comparable freesync monitor

It's ever so slightly ahead on average. I guess you're right with nvidia gimping on so many titles.
1060 will use less power, but if you're not gonna OC, then you can seriously undervolt a 580. Get a freesync monitor and tell nvidia eat a bag of dicks.
Undervolted to around 1V, which should do 1,300 MHz, it will consume roughly the same as a 1060. AMD severely overvolts every chip produced.
It's the other way around, 580 is ever so slightly ahead on average.

If you're a hardcore gamer and/or play graphic intensive, then go with the GTX 1060. It's not that AMD doesn't make a good GPU, but for years they've always been behind Nvidia when it comes to updating their drivers.

That has become a lot less true. I see them matching monthly updates now.

From reading some of the reviews it's like rolling the dice for this card

Even with gimpworks, here's the averages https://www.techpowerup
Bottom line: even if you don't touch the settings, it's worth it for freesync so long as you don't overpay.

Guess it depends on the titles specifically. Here's a link I was referencing https://www.forbes.com/sites/anto...-1060-6gb/

The dirtbags don't need anymore money, regardless.
