With the new eBay $25 off $119 coupon (valid 07/17 until 11pm PT), you can get the NVIDIA Shield TV with game controller for $179.99 - $25 with no trade-in.

Note: There is the existing Shield TV with game controller deal from Best Buy for $179.99 - $30 trade-in (= $149.99), which is YMMV due to the sale price and requires the trade-in of a streaming device. If your device is worth more than $5 or so or you don't want to have to haggle with a manager, I would strongly suggest the eBay deal.

It is a (relatively) powerful Android box. You can use it to play games or stream from some sort of PC-based service (at a cost, of course), but most people use it for streaming media. You can connect a very large hard drive and play video files from there using Kodi. It is an excellent box for streaming and recording free broadcast television from an HDHomeRun. It can act as a server for Plex.

Because it is reasonably powerful, HDHomeRun, Plex, and others only support the Shield as an Android server. It does hardware video transcoding so it can handle video without a heavy processor - Plex says you can run 2-3 transcoding sessions, which it recommends an i5 if you use a PC.

And of course it can run apps like Prime video, HBO Now, etc.

I bought one two weeks ago...right before all the slickdeals Frown

Tempted to jump on this instead of waiting around and possibly missing the amazon deal... $15 extra to have the controller is not bad IMO. I never really use it on my other shield tho... do you know for emulation if you can use two Nvidia controllers at the same time or will they both register as player 1?

Best Buy useless customer service took a whole 30 minutes to process my trade. The guy was just standing by the computer looking like he's trying to figure a way to not take the 30 dollars off
