I am thinking of buying this, despite the screen, which I think will work okay with my 65-year-old eyes anyway. My question for those who own it: so ... what do you think? Like it?

I just ran a benchmark of Civilization VI on default settings, which are between low/medium. It averaged 37 FPS. I also tested vanilla Minecraft out in a new world and it seemed to play smoothly with default settings. I think the 2200U is a pretty capable APU. I wouldn't buy this if you plan on using a laptop for gaming...but it seems to be able to manage some 2016 games at very low settings.
The 5400 RPM HDD is a real let down after using SSD for many years. If you upgrade, make sure to download and integrate the drivers in your Win 10 install if installing from scratch. The keyboard and mouse were not usable when I first attempted to reinstall Win 10. Also, about 1 GB of ram is reserved for the APU. The battery is not removable without taking the laptop apart. Build quality is cheap, but not terrible.
Really I don't think this is a bad laptop for under 300. It was either this or a Chromebook for me.

For what it's worth I've switched to a Ryzen powered laptop recently, albeit a 2700u, and been very happy with it.

What's staples return policy on laptops?
if i get it, first move will be to swap out the hard drive for the ssd in my old computer (the one with seven dead keys and a portable keyboard sitting on it).
If it starts tomorrow, why would it show 280 today?
