Google is selling the Pixel 2 XL with 64gb for $649. It's $200 off of any Pixel 2 XL. It requires a Project Fi activation. It also works for those already using Project Fi. They are also offering a $50 account credit on the Moto G6.
From reading the details, it looks just like the Moto x4 deal from a while ago. You get the discount applied immediately. All you have to do is activate the account when you receive the phone, then you can immediately cancel the line and you still get the discounted price. The service is also prorated for only the one day. Not a bad deal for a Google version pixel 2 XL. Significantly more valuable on the used market for resale than the Verizon one too.
The terms say "no minimum activation period required" to get the $200 discount. Sounds like you can sign up for a few days, then jump ship. So comments shouldn't be about how bad Fi prices are (we know that). It should be about whether $649 for a brand new Pixel 2 XL is a good deal or not.
Not saying 650 is a bargain, but og pixel xl held value really well and based on leaks pixel 3 xl looks like more of a modest upgrade compared to pixel 2 xl vs pixel 1 xl. I haven't seen a new Google version pixel 2 xl for less than this. Unlocked bootloader is important to some of us vs locked down Verizon version. Swappa used mint Google version going for $500 for comparison.
I really like Fi, but undeniably it is a service designed for people with low data usage, but who want flexibility when they need it.
I have WiFi at work and home, so my typical data usage is under 1 GB but occasionally it will balloon up to 4 GB+ due to life events, and Fi lets you do that without worry. I still save significant money, paying on average under $30/month compared to my old T-Mobile Simple Choice plan at $50/month. In essence I am paying Prepaid prices without the downsides of a Prepaid plan.
For me the biggest downside of Fi is actually phone selection. The Original Pixel was a good phone (although a little pricey), Pixel 2 didn't really add a great deal to the Original Pixel, increased the price, and removed the headphone jack. The Pixel 3 looks to be adding a HUGE notch, face gimmicks, and keeping the new iPhone X price. Meh.
I might eventually leave Fi if the Pixel 4 doesn't improve considerably.
Fi needs to get real, $10/GB for service is a joke.
Service credit on top doesn't sweeten the deal, that's a subsidy paid by customers getting price-gouged.
T-Mobile's One plan is $70/month, Fi is capped at $80/month for unlimited.
But the devil is in the details on T-Mobile's $70 One Plan. For the $70 you won't get:
- HD Streaming (capped at 480p)
- Full Speed International Data (capped at 128 Kbps)
- Voice to Text
- Hotspot is capped at 3G speeds
If you want to unlock HD Streaming, get high speed international, voice to text, and 4G Hotspot (20 GB) you have to "Amp Up" your One Plan with their One Plus offering which costs $15/month, or $85 for what Fi provides at up to $80/month.
So exactly how is Fi expensive? In particular as you can save money in low usage months, having it cost as little as $30/month.

Compared to who? Who spends more then $80, what carrier?
T-Mobile's One Plus plan which is similar to Fi is $5 more at $85/month. Plus Fi is capped at $80, it starts at $30 month if your usage is low enough.

Do you think the regular Pixel 3 will have the same starting price of $649?

This guy gets it. It's rare to find logic on the internet, so thanks.
I am thinking of buying this and using fi for a few days then canceling and putting my verizon SIM in.
Does someone message me a screenshot of the $649. Which they might have saved on their phone/laptop. I am filing for price protection since I paid $849 for this phone
