That's my plan. Planning on going with a 2080 or 1080ti if its cheap, but we really need to know what the 2000 series is capable of in normal games that dont use ray tracing and the other specific features.
I'm waiting for RTX but still posted this because this is actually not a bad deal for someone willing to pick a 1080ti. Not to mention, the regular 2080 is about 6% faster than 1080ti as per the leaks but $200 higher in price!

There is no reason to speculate. We are nearing the launch
Nice deal on a 1080ti, plus with a good brand. I would do it, but I already have a 1070 and the jump in performance isn't worth spending $700 for me, but if I was in the market for a GPU, I would definitely jump at it.

But then there's no harm in buying one now and returning later unused if the 2080 performance isn't above and beyond after all. Also, if that happens, the price might actually go up for a little while!

Jump in performance is actually pretty considerable between 1070 and 1080ti. Between 1070 and 1080, not so much!!

Theoblem is newegg doesn't take gpus back. And their MAIN return policy page states they DO take anything back when unopened, that unopened trumps all of their other policies, I called to get them to confirm it, they said yes I am correct, then I noticed they apparently lied to me because there was no "return for refund" link for a gpu I bought, like there was for other products.
So bottom line they are SUPPSOED to take them back if manufacturer sealed still, yet they apparently don't.
I have an unopened gtx 1060 I'd need to sell if I want something better and I would have returned it, probably, if the link had been there to do so.
I need a 1070 or 1070 ti or standard 1080, otherwise keeping the 1060. I almost never game, so figured the 1070 is good enough for occasional gaming (and even 1060 is), but if ebay doesn't hurry and do another 20% off day, I am stuck keeping this, I guess.

I know it's a jump, but is it a $600 jump? If I just needed a new GPU, this would be a no-brainer. Also, could get a discounted 1070 right now and run in SLI and get better performance in a lot of games.

Good info.. I'll add it to the description..

Oh no, no way... if you game on 1080p/1440p, 1070 is more than you would need! I also have 1070 in my laptop and I game on 1440p @ 80+ FPS on most games..

Getting ready to upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Right now I'm running the GTX 1070 on a 1080p that I've had for 4 years. I'm one of those people who upgrades one piece at a time until something becomes outdated or breaks. Wow, a locust just started howling outside. Never heard one so loud. Dogs are going nuts. lol

Aim for Gsync and that 1070 will last you for a very long time..
