Seems likely that it will upgrade to 20GB RAM with the addition of 16GB ddr4-2666 that'll run you over $130 on Amazon.
It's a TN panel.
that's an accurate review. in case you missed it...
"Throttling is severe at almost 41 percent according to our CineBench R15 loop test. Thus, while the Ryzen 5 2500U is a powerful Intel alternative on paper, owners of the Lenovo won't benefit fully from the AMD processor when gaming or under high loads."
it's still an ok machine, but the cheaper, supposedly slower, processor on the intel version 330S is actually faster, doesn't burn your lap as much, and has marginally better battery life. the single channel RAM neuters the otherwise great onboard video on this model. i don't think the RAM price is worth the upgrade on this machine, but it might marginally improve performance if you want to go that way.
How is the thermal management on this one? I need a reasonably portable laptop to drag around for photos/light video and boy $500 is the right price tag.
already answered in this thread. it's awful. throttles to essentially half the speed the ryzen is capable of producing. video performance is also subpar compared to the same processor in a better chassis.
What are the pros & cons of doing an immediate fresh Operating System install?
I haven't powered up yet. I understand that the machine will want to go through updates immediately. I'm tempted to boot from usb, installing bloatfree Windows 10 Home 64bit.

1) What type of USB C is this (hoping Thunderbolt vs the other 8 types, yes 8, of USB C)?
2) Is the RAM upgradeable beyond 8GB (listed as 4GB Onboard & 4GB Dimm, assuming onboard equals soldered)?
3) Is the SSD upgradeable or soldered?
I have to hp x360 version of this..if that even makes sense.. Ryzen 2500u with 8gb ram and a (surprisingly) slow HGST 1tb drive. I upgraded to a WD 3d nvme pcie black 1tb drive (copied everything from the HGST drive) and 16gb corsair vengeance(I think) ram; lightning fast now. Literally max 10-13 seconds to boot.
However when I switched to the nvme drive I made sure to back up the stock HGST as I had to wipe the disk in order for the bios to use the nvme to boot. Something hp did in the bios I read somewhere.
Like I said though that's hp, so where or not the ram is soldered and if it has a nvme slot are totally unknown to me.
Agreed. Most people will use their laptops to surf the web and watch YouTube videos while their unsatisfied spouse sleeps in the other room. There's a 65% chance of wing sauce stains on the t-shirt and a 100% chance no productive work is being done.
Lastly, if you're buying a laptop to play video games, you should be re-evaluating your life.
I am worried that my computer will slow down like a turtle a few years later.
They all do if you don't defragment and run disc cleanup. CCleaner is your friend. You also need to clear your cache and browser history at least 1x a month.

My son's laptop just fried. Has anyone used the Rysen 5 Vega 8 with anything like Fortnite? I've seen some decent vids on YouTube showing good results, but other comments say they had trouble duplicating the results.
Ryzen 5 2500u with Vega 8 is more than capable of running Fortnite. Look up benchmarks on YouTube, preferrably for this specific model. Frankly, Vega is the best integrated graphics the world has ever seen. It comes down to how it's been implemented by the OEM and the laptop's cooling solution for the most part. Again, look up benchmarks for the particular model of laptop you're looking for, Ryzen 5 2500u does not perform the same in every laptop.
Hell of a laptop for anything but gaming. I'm fixing a friends celeron 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, non SSD hard and I want to blow my brains out. For $125 this computer could get 8gb of ram and an SSD but it's just not worth it.

I'm hoping the fan issues are related to power management/bios that'd be easier for some of us to address.
