I bought one last year because it was cheap. The 3 minute cycle time makes it useless for other than break ins. For my automations had to use Samsung and iris motion sensors. Someone could walk into a room 4 times in 3 minutes, this sensor only informs on event 1, then goes mute for 3 minutes. The seller only offers a manufacturer warranty according to website, so any issues, good luck getting Bosch to respond
Using motion detector to turn on lights in business restroom....on several occasions in some stores while in the stall all the lights have turned off because they didn't see "movement" while I was in the stall. Not a perfect example...another might be a security setup where movement = a picture taken....if you have multiple burglers then you'd want to get all them on camera and not have to wait 3 minutes for a new pic.

I plan to put some of these outside around the yard and on the porch and patio.

I was just taking a close look at the motion sensor and i noticed that there is a small 1mm gap between the motion sensing panel and the molding of the housing unit. so before i put any of these out on fence posts and expose them to the elements (i.e. rain) i plan to put a small line of silicone around the edge of the motion panel to help seal it from rain.

These are $15 on amazon. Looking at the data sheets, I would say this is a older model. Here is the newer model: https://us.boschsecurity.com/en/p...onpir_4897

I have had two of these for 2 years and they are the most reliable motion sensors I have.

They don't make any mention of Zigbee?

Edit: The Amazon answers say it's for hardwired systems only.

I have one of these that I got from the same vendor when these were on sale. It does ok so long as you're comfortable with the 3 minute wait between trigger times. It's quite large and it seems more solidly built than most plastic stuff. Setting this one up does require some extra work, but like so many other SmartThings devices, there's good community support, so the steps are clear. (BTW, so far, my favorite motion sensor is the SmartThings one because it's so compact and simple, but it's not this cheap.)

Honest question: Can you give me use case example of when you would need it to trigger more than once in 3 minutes? I am new to motion sensors but not to Smartthings.

Ok thanks

I have no cameras so 2nd scenario doesn't matter to me.

I am interested in motion activated lights. My kids never turn off the lights in their room when they leave. If a motion triggers a light, wouldn't you want at least like a 5 minute timer "light on" period? By then, motion sensor would be active again for any further movement.

Correct. Just increase the time to 4+ minutes. Problem solved. Issue people have is that then, the lights are on a few minutes longer than necessary if the person left the room less then 4 minutes.

Thanks, I'd rather get this from Amazon even if it is a few more dollars. I know I can trust Amazon on returns and such.
