How long does it take to get the battery replaced?
Are we getting the same phone (w/ replaced battery) or refurbished phone?
New battery same phone...takes about 2-3 hours.

Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, starting in late January and available worldwide through December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com.

To me, that seems like they will ultimately decide if the battery is good or not. It's clear to me that Apple knew about some bad battery issues as my 6m old IPhone 7 just died (semi-bricked) two days after a (forced) iOS 11 upgrade. No matter what, I could not get the device to charge, but it would sporadically work on the charger. Which was strange since most of the time it would just constantly reboot.

Anyway, the initial behavior was the battery showing full -> dead in an extremely short period. Apple store handed me a brand new phone. No questions asked.

they'll probably make you sign a form suggesting that you will not partake in any lawsuit if the battery is replaced...

Nope, as i believe. Replaced the cracked screen for my boss ip7 last time. He brought it in apple store 2 weeks later after breaking the screen, again. Store refused to trade or perform service since it is no longer OEM

The same crap they pulled with their shotty work on the touchscreen chip aka touch disease in 6 plus iPhones. I had to pay yet again for their inadequacy.

I wonder if this means "in warranty" battery replacements will be informally granted on a liberal basis to anyone who requests one.

I think this is YMMV if you are still in warranty and maybe even if out. I replaced the screen on my IPhone 6 and there is really no way to tell. However, batteries may be a bit trickery as they have special glue / tape to keep them down.

The iPhone 7 had a replacement screen and camera on it. Tech broke the camera when replacing the screen.
